πŸ‘‹ Meet Shannon, a Nurse Practitioner (NP) at Holmes House in Simcoe.

It’s Nurse Practitioner Week, and we are shining a spotlight on skilled healthcare professionals like Shannon who play an important role in providing care, compassion, and medical expertise to those they serve. ❀

Holmes House is a community-based addiction treatment program operated by Norfolk General Hospital. It provides a safe and supportive environment for people who are working to overcome substance use challenges and rebuild their lives.

Since joining Holmes House in February, Shannon has focused on helping clients stay healthy and on track with their treatment goals.

β€œMy day-to-day work is focused on making sure our clients are feeling well and progressing toward their goals for admission,” Shannon says. β€œMy role supports continuity of care and easy access to ongoing medical assessment, so clients can focus on their recovery and receive the support they need.”

Her role ensures that each client receives compassionate and consistent care throughout their stay. By providing medical oversight and emotional reassurance, Shannon helps create a caring environment where recovery can begin.

β€œI love everything about Holmes House,” she shares. β€œIf I had to narrow it down, I would say it is working with a compassionate team of people.”

Shannon decided to become a Nurse Practitioner after being inspired by a mentor during her nursing career. β€œI was really inspired by an NP that I worked with when I was an RN.”

Nurse Practitioners are registered nurses with advanced education and training. They assess, diagnose, order tests, and prescribe treatments while maintaining a focus on prevention, education, and whole-person care.

β€œNPs offer a blend of advanced medical skills and nursing expertise,” Shannon explains. β€œIn my position, I can support both nursing and physician partners to ensure clients receive continuous and coordinated care.”

Thank you, Shannon, for the care, compassion, and strength you bring to those finding their way to recovery. Your work changes lives, and we are so grateful to have you on our team. πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ’™

Did you know Nurse Practitioners can diagnose illnesses, prescribe medicine, and manage your care from start to finish?

It’s National Nurse Practitioner Week, and we’re proud to recognize the amazing Nurse Practitioners at Norfolk General Hospital and Holmes House.

Nurse Practitioners are registered nurses with advanced education and training. They provide many of the same services as doctors, including diagnosing and treating patients, ordering and reviewing tests, and prescribing medicine. You’ll find them caring for people in the Emergency Department, on our 3E and 3B units, and at Holmes House.

They also reach beyond the hospital through Norfolk General Hospital’s Nurse-Led Outreach Team (NLOT), which supports local long-term care homes. This program helps residents receive care where they feel most comfortable, in their own home.

What makes them special is how they combine medical knowledge with compassionate care. They take time to listen, support, and guide patients and families. Their care helps people recover, manage long-term health conditions, and live healthier lives.

This week, we want to say thank you to our Nurse Practitioners. Your care, skill, and kindness make a real difference every day. We are so proud and fortunate to have you on our team.

Happy National Nurse Practitioner Week! πŸ’™ πŸ˜πŸ‘

Today, Norfolk General Hospital, and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home join Canadians across the country in honouring the brave men and women who have served, and continue to serve, our nation.

Remembrance Day is a time to pause, reflect, and give thanks.

It reminds us of the freedoms we enjoy every day, to speak freely, to vote, to live in peace, because of those who stood for something greater than themselves.

Since 1919, Canadians have gathered on this day to remember the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of our veterans. We wear poppies, share stories, and stand in silence to ensure their memory lives on.

At 10:58 a.m., the β€œLast Post” will play at Norfolk General Hospital, followed by two minutes of silence. Flags will be lowered to half-mast in a solemn tribute to those who served and to those who gave their lives.

Lest we forget. ❀️

It’s Medical Radiation Technologists Week at Norfolk General Hospital πŸ’™

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible work of our Medical Radiation Technologists (MRTs) and the Diagnostic Imaging team who care for our community every single day

These professionals use advanced imaging technology to help detect, diagnose, and monitor health conditions. From ultrasounds and mammograms to X-rays and CT scans , their skill and precision give care teams the information they need to make confident decisions and help patients heal.

Our Diagnostic Imaging team includes nearly 25 dedicated staff members who bring compassion and expertise to every scan. They are there in moments of uncertainty, helping provide clarity and peace of mind for patients and families πŸ’–

In the past year at Norfolk General Hospital, our MRTs:

➑ Completed more than 20,000 CT scans to support diagnosis and treatment planning
➑ Captured over 18,400 X-rays to assess injuries and conditions quickly
➑ Performed nearly 7,400 ultrasounds to guide care and support families
➑ Conducted about 3,900 mammograms to promote early detection and prevention

Their work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact reaches every corner of the hospital and every part of our community

To our MRTs, thank you for the care you provide and the difference you make every day. Your dedication helps bring health and hope to so many πŸ’™ πŸ™ 🩻 😁

Happy Medical Radiation Technologists Week!

πŸŽƒ Happy Halloween from Norfolk General Hospital! πŸŽƒ

Things got spooky and a little hilarious around here today. πŸ‘»

We had Where’s Waldo hiding in the lab. Still no sign of him. πŸ‘€

The ICU team took things to the next level and dressed up as Kevin Lab, our real-life legend, Medical Laboratory Technologist, and 25-year NGH superstar. Kevin, you’ve officially made hospital history. πŸ˜‚

Bret β€œThe Hitman” Hart and Macho Man Randy Savage made a surprise tag-team appearance. Things got intense, but thankfully no one was harmed in the making of their photo. πŸ’ͺ

Even our healthcare mannequins got in on the fun. Talk about commitment to training. 🩺

A huge shoutout to the NGH Foundation for the candy haul. You kept our energy levels dangerously high. 🍬

Have a safe and spooktacular Halloween, and good luck to our Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series tonight. Let’s go, Jays! πŸ’™βšΎ

πŸ‘» Stay spooky, Norfolk County! 🍭
