Norfolk General Hospital, the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home, and Holmes House extend warm wishes to all staff, physicians, volunteers, patients, families, and community members who are observing Ramadan.

Ramadan is a sacred month for Muslims around the world. It is a time of fasting, prayer, reflection, charity, and acts of kindness. Many who observe will fast from dawn to sunset and focus on compassion, patience, and gratitude throughout the month.

We recognize that some members of our team and community may be observing Ramadan while continuing to provide and support care in busy clinical and support roles. We sincerely thank them for their ongoing commitment to patients, residents, and families.

If you are observing Ramadan and need any support during this time, please speak with a member of our team.

We wish all who are observing a peaceful and healthy Ramadan.

Ramadan Mubarak.

When someone you care about is in the hospital, comfort matters.

A chair to rest in overnight.
A table close by.
A wheelchair ready when it is needed.

The Norfolk General Hospital Volunteer Association has donated $45,000 to support patient rooms at Norfolk General Hospital.

This is their third major gift this year. Their total support now stands at $85,000. With one more donation planned, they are working toward a goal of $100,000 for patients, residents, and families. ❤

These funds are raised right here in our community through the Coffee Kiosk, Gift Shop, Craft Group, 50 50 ticket sales, and Tag Days.

Volunteers give so much of their time so patients and families can feel more comfortable during their stay. That care makes a real difference. 🙏😁

Norfolk General Hospital and Holmes House are saddened to share the passing of John Ranger, a long-time partner, advocate, and friend to our community.

John was widely known across Haldimand-Norfolk for his leadership in mental health and addiction services through his work with Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). He was a strong supporter of Holmes House, an early partner in the Addictive Supportive Housing Program, and one of the original champions behind the creation of the RAAM Clinic in our community.

John believed deeply that care must always begin with one simple question: What is best for the client?

His advocacy, compassion, and collaboration helped shape mental health and addiction services across Norfolk in ways that continue to make a difference today.

For those who wish to learn more about John’s life and share condolences, his obituary is available at the link below:

Our thoughts are with John’s family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives were touched by his work.

Not sure where to go for care?

You have options in our community that can help with common health concerns.

A family doctor, pharmacist, walk-in clinic, virtual care provider, or Health811 can often provide the care and advice you need, without a trip to the Emergency Department.

If you are ever unsure, the Emergency Department is always here for you.

This month, we join Canadians across the country in recognizing Black History Month.

The 2026 theme marks 30 years of Black History Month in Canada and honours the legacy and leadership of Black Canadians across generations.

Black physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals have helped shape a more inclusive healthcare system, often while facing barriers. Their impact continues to strengthen patient care today.

At Norfolk General Hospital, the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home, and Holmes House, this message connects directly to our daily work.

Every interaction is a chance to show respect, fairness, and understanding.
We are committed to learning, reflecting, and being part of the solution.

Born at Norfolk General Hospital. Now she will help shape the care others receive here.

Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) is proud to share that Amanda Sonnenberg will serve as our new Vice President of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive starting February 27, 2026. She will also serve in this role at West Haldimand General Hospital.

Amanda is a Registered Nurse, a lifelong Norfolk County resident, and a respected health care leader with nearly 20 years of experience, including 15 years at NGH.

She was born at Norfolk General Hospital and now steps into a role that helps shape care for patients and families across our region. Amanda is known for her collaborative leadership style and her deep commitment to patient-centred care.

We also want to sincerely thank Kim Mullins, who is retiring after serving seven years in this role and more than 17 years in leadership at the hospital. Kim has supported teams, mentored staff, and guided care through some of the hospital’s most challenging moments. Her kindness, steady leadership, and dedication to patients and staff have left a lasting mark on our hospital and community. Kim will be deeply missed. 💙

Please join us in welcoming Amanda and thanking Kim for her years of service.

A $3 million investment in the future of local health care. ❤

Last week, our valued partners at Norfolk County, presented the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation with $3 million to support the modernization of the Norfolk General Hospital’s Minimally Invasive Surgical suites.

This investment will change what’s possible for patients in our community.

Safer surgeries.
Faster recovery.
More care delivered close to home.

With modern operating rooms and advanced technology, our surgical teams will be better equipped to care for thousands of patients each year.

We are grateful to NorfolkCounty for their partnership and long-term commitment to local health care. This support will help shape patient care today and for years to come.
