Horizon Athletics Train like an athlete, LIVE without limits Hi I'm Sam! Welcome to HART. I believe in moving away from 'pain-focused' or 'limitations based' exercise prescription.

You are not fragile. You are not broken. You are more than your pain. And we can learn, through movement, strength and awareness, how to better manage your pain, together.

My rehab focused practice consists of 3 important steps.

1. Listening to your story and learning everything there is to know about YOU.
2. Finding the hardest thing you can do well, your key links and performance indicators.
3. Strength training to improve your capacity, and to make those hard things easy.

Our focus together, is on building you a bigger cup to fill.

A bigger cup = More freedom to enjoy your life.

Beyond pain and injury, the lifelong work truly begins and flourishes from there. Resilience is always our goal. Regardless of where we sit on the lifespan, and regardless of what activities we enjoy most.

Expect to work and fall in love with the strength you already possess, and the strength you are yet to discover.

And remember - the process isn't the same for everyone. And it is certainly not EASY. But based on evidence based principles and practice, it CAN be made simple and achievable. As my mentor, Dr. Craig Liebenson says, the intention is to provide "tangible hope and an achievable plan" to everyone that walks in the door.

I know it can be confusing to navigate, with all the information out there. I know it can be hard to stay on track, because well, life can be hard. I know motivation comes and goes and life demands change.

But - you can STILL.

Always.

Choose strength.

Strength in movement, in confidence, in reps put in and in consistency through showing up for yourself, time and time again.

If for no other good reason, simply choose strength because your life, your health, depends on it.🤷‍♀️

✔️30-60 min walking a day, 7 days a week
✔️Prioritize time with family and friends
✔️Training 3-4x a week (varying intensities)
✔️10 minutes everyday in silence, outside
✔️Blocking ‘planning and studying’ time into my work schedule 2x a week
✔️Daily protein goal >100g
✔️Make my bed every morning
✔️Spend 1 day a week, social media free ✨
✔️Saying no to what does not serve my passions, joy or peace

As a kinesiologist, I believe movement should be our first line of defence in healthcare.

As a coach, I believe we are so much stronger than we realize, and by tapping into that strength potential, and dismantling self-limiting beliefs, we build resilience.

As an athlete, I believe the way in which you move, comes in all shapes, forms and modalities - there is no one way, but we all do need to train the same qualities.

As a human, I believe we deserve to invest in our health. Far more than we’re already doing. We deserve for our healthcare practitioners to care beyond the transaction. We deserve to feel empowered through our health related choices, not bullied. We deserve to prioritize ourselves.

As a woman, I believe in hard work, self-love and my independence. Hell no, if any man needs to lift my suitcase into the overhead compartment. I got this. 🔥💃🏼

What if the time you think you have tomorrow, just doesn’t exist tomorrow…

What would you do with today?

This evening my girl and I went for a walk sans phone at sunset. We took our sweet time at the end of the spit, and I threw 5 million sticks for her to swim her hearts desire.

Walking along the shoreline, I felt myself pulled to walk deeper and deeper into the water. It was crisp but… I couldn’t feel the cold, it was beyond refreshing. It felt so damn good, I could feel happiness bubbling in my soul. So I stripped down and walked in, sunk in fully, and consumed. Consumed the life I know I deserve.

Sometimes I forget what really matters. It’s easy to get caught up in what everybody else is doing, to lose sight of your purpose and light.

The greatest perspective shift of my life happened this year. And amongst the many things I hold with me moving forward, are these reminders…

Let go, more
Tune in, more
Consume less of what does. Not. Matter.
And consume more of the life that leaves my cheeks aching, and my skin sun kissed, and my dreams burning alive.
Consume more love. Spread more love.

Are you this happy at the ‘bottom’ of your squat?

If not - do you know why?

Is it pain that keeps you from squatting? Is it fear?

Did someone tell you it was bad for your knees? (Awh Hell no)

Did someone tell you to avoid moving your spine when you bend over, or to avoid picking up weight heavier than 10lbs? (Awh HELL no)

Did you know every time you sit down on the toilet, you’re squatting?…

Did you know everytime you get in and out of the car, you’re managing some form of a single leg squat?…

Did you know that running can produce forces 3-4x your bodyweight on EACH stride? Those numbers add up QUICK. Now imagine doing it 3x a week but without any single leg strength work to match it...

Did you know your grocery bags weigh more than 10lbs? Unless all you’re eating for dinner is marshmallows…

If you’re not this happy at the bottom of your squat, I’d love to know why. And damn would I ever love to help you with that. 💥

You don’t need more rest and less movement.
You need a better access point, with enough stress to encourage adaptation.

Is it self-discipline? Or is it just a passion for life.

Our lives require our resilience. There will always be great days, mediocre days, and the worst days we can ever imagine.

Some days we’ll want to show up, some days we won’t but we know we should, and some days we won’t and we know we shouldn’t.

Perhaps sticking with a goal requires self-discipline. But my hope for all of my clients is that they choose the LIFESTYLE that gives them access to a passionate life. One based on potential not limitations. One with energy and drive and inspiration, not chronic fatigue and pain.

Making this journey a lifestyle, changes the narrative. It’s less about habits that you despise, and more about filling up your resource batteries.

If you’re still looking to ‘fit’ exercise into your schedule as if it’s a chore, or skip your strength training sessions because you’re too busy with engaging in a million activities that DEMAND your strength, I highly recommend you stop. Breathe. Check in. Re-evaluate your priorities on the path to living a passionate life.

begins it’s second month of life tomorrow, with 3 additional badass women joining in 💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼

Couldn’t be more proud/stoked/obsessed with coaching these women who consistently show up eager and committed to prioritizing their health.

Not every day is easy, we can’t always be motivated.. most days I’m sure at least one of them almosttttt doesn’t show up. But then they DO.

That kind of mental resilience is what we train for.

Tomorrow is skills class >>> 🧠 running mechanics & the goblet clean are on the docket!

🤔 How do we do that?

➕ Build strength for life, sport and play. Having a strong foundation is a non-negotiable. This is your base of resilience - physically and mentally, and requires a wide lens on all factors that influence your endless capacity for strength.

➕Failure tolerance - if we are in constant fear of failing, we will never get to where we want to go. We have to be willing to try and try again, every time we fall. Failure tolerance requires strategy, patience and respect - for yourself and for the process.

➕ Self - efficacy. Your belief in yourself. Easier said than done, right? We’re our own worst critics.. (beyond guilty 🙋‍♀️). But - can we use skill based learning, measuring and managing progress and improving our understanding of the principles and the true significant drivers in our health, to REMIND ourselves, that we’re in the drivers seat of our own healthcare? Hi, I’m Sam! 🤙🏻👩🏻‍🦰

I am fuelled by my morning coffee in bed, seeking the ‘pockets’ of sunshine in my days, time with my loved ones, my commitment to my own health journey, and supporting others in theirs.

I do not naturally seek change, I have to fight to allow for it in my life, it’s a constant practice. It makes entrepreneurship a daily challenge, but I DO like a challenge 😎

In my 28 years of life, I have never bought my own socks. Thanks mom!

I am vegan. Or no.. plant based? Well I eat eggs. And seafood! So pescatarian… But I don’t consume dairy? But perhaps just a bite of that cheesy pizza.. every once in a blue moon. Have y’all tried NYC pizza tho🤤 You know what - it’s complicated. I do my best 🤷‍♀️ for my health, the planet and the animals.

I am an empathetic being and I struggle with anxiety and depression - it makes social media exhausting. It means sometimes I take breaks to process, sometimes I take breaks to desensitize, and sometimes I take breaks because my health depends on it.

I love tacos and tequila. Amen.

I named my car after , because she is a power house, and I’m hi-key obsessed that she is unapologetically herself and fights the good fight, publicly and proudly.

My life changed in a million ways when I committed to investing in my health. When I sought out support, when I stopped expecting immediate gratification and instead dedicated myself to the lifelong process. The ever adapting, ever evolving, never linear process of being my best and strongest self.

My laugh is loud. I am loud. There is snorting involved?

Life is unpredictable. Life is short. Prioritize the things that fuel you and fill your cup. Prioritize the LIFE in your days.
