Update on Efforts to Establish a Community Health Centre. March 19, 2026

SRCHN is pleased that its advocacy since 2003 is helping to bring an additional primary care health services to the Sooke Region. The BC Builds Project to be built on Lot A at 6651 Wadams Way will include space for additional primary care services. These may take the form of an urgent and primary care centre and would complement services offered by the T’Sou-ke Nation’s newly opened T’Sou-ke Community Complex and Health Centre.

The March 2023 announcement of a Community Health Centre and Urgent Primary Care Centre (CHC-UPCC) for the Sooke region by the former BC Minister of Health Adrian Dix began a series of CHC-UPCC negotiations on the service delivery plan between SRCHN, the West Coast Family Medical Clinic, Island Health and the Ministry of Health. These were paused by the September 2024 provincial election and the subsequent 2025 provincial budget process.

The District of Sooke continued discussions with Island Health and the Ministry of Health on the BC Builds project. In 2025, Catalyst Community Developments Society was chosen as the developer for the 6651 Wadams Way project, with space for health services.

Zoning and development permits for 6651 Wadams Way are currently being considered in the District’s Land Use Committee and will be brought before Council on March 23, 2026.

Additional health services in the Sooke Region would be an important step towards a community health centre model of care, envisaged by the community and announced in March 2023.
