๐บ A piece of my heart is still in Hawaii.๐ด
I returned from Maui a few days ago, where I completed the Hawaiian Lomi Lomi fundamental training. As I continue to practice, learn, and integrate the teachings I received, I feel humble, grateful, and still very much a student.
Lomi is an ancient Hawaiian healing art, practiced for generations by cultural practitioners and elders who carried this wisdom as a sacred way of life. I trained at the beautiful Hoโomana Spa. Hoโomanaโs style of Lomi comes from six lineages of Hawaiian elders who entrusted my teacher, Kumu Jeana Iwalani Naluai, to share these teachings. She is a gifted native Hawaiian cultural practitioner, physical and massage therapist, and she carries this work with deep respect and care.
Lomi is much more than massage... It is rhythm, breath, connection, presence, and flow.๐ It uses continuous, dance-like movement with forearms, palms, fingers, and intuitive touch to support alignment on physical, emotional, spiritual, and energetic levels.
As part of this training, we were welcomed into sacred lands for ceremony, chant, and meditation. After powerful experiences at the sacred landscapes of Iao Valley and the ocean in Waiheโe, we journeyed up a coastal mountain to Kukuipuka Heiau, an ancient temple hidden from the hustle and bustle. Led by our teacher, we chanted our way in, sat in silence, and opened ourselves to receiving. A quiet experience I will carry forward with reverence.
This is only the beginning of my relationship with Lomi. I am practicing, listening, and allowing it to shape me as I continue to learn.
I am deeply grateful to have found this path. This work feels so aligned, and Iโm excited to share it at Willowgrove Wellness in the near future. ๐บ
