Hello Again! We've been a little quiet here on social as we've been as busy as elves behind the scenes, planning out 2026 programming for you! However, we wanted to take a moment out to share with you some important news!

In the last couple of years we have seen a steady uptick of attention to the fertility and perinatal period. All of the work that communities are doing to raise their voices is creaing change!

In the recent days two new developments have been announced:

UPDATE #1: The World Health Organization released the first-ever set of global guidelines for the treatment of infertility. The guidelines provide evidence-based recommendations addressing prevention, diagnosis, a focus on equity, treatment, and psychosocial impact.

We are excited to see how this will trickle-down into our national and local communities to hopefully create the medical, financial, and social support systems that people have been so deeply needing.

UPDATE #2 Health Canada approved the first-ever pill to treat postpartum depression in Canada. Zuranolone - already approved in the UK, US and by the EU - is a once-daily pill to be taken orally for 14 days geared to women dealing with moderate to severe PPD. While SSRI antidepressants have typically been used (with psychotherapy being the first line of treatment), this medication touts a quicker onset and targets different mechanisms believed to regulate mood.

As we are not medical professionals, we are not qualified to provide advice or recommendations on the specifics of these developments, or what elements of them may (or may not) be a fit for you.

However, we do believe that information is power and want you to have as much of it as you can, to make informed decision about your health and wellbeing. We encourage you to talk more to your medical professional should you desire additional information.

Today is World Mental Health Day!!

This year, the focus is on “mental health in humanitarian emergencies. It asks us to consider not just the scale of the challenge, but the strength of the response possible when communities lead the way….I’ve also seen what happens when we share that weight by leaning on one another.”
- Lili-Anna Perras C.Q.; President & CEO; Mental Health Commission of Canada -

There’s a lot happening in the world right now - and likely a lot happening in YOUR world. Today we are reminded that we can do this - together. Community is a powerful factor in bolstering mental health and healing - something we believe in wholeheartedly at SRPWC.

Many factors and influences in our society right now drive us to lean too hard into the direction of individuality, competition, and productivity. It is a positive act of resistance to continue to reach for each other and work together in collaboration and community.

We know many people in the perinatal stages are feeling their capacity is stretched. It can feel like a lot to help out in the larger world when you are trying to keep yours together.

Giving care to your mental health/wellness and accepting help IS one very important way of helping our larger communities.

Please don’t underestimate the power of this and the power of YOU. This isn’t an expectation to “meet up to” - it’s already in you, ready to be lit up. So we hope you will add one thing in your day that lights you up and connects you to mental wellness and community.

In honour of the day, BC Parliament will be lighting up in green, as a collaborative effort with BC Association of British Columbia. Join us in spreading a little light - even if that means in one little corner of your world.

So happy to once again be a part of such a meaningful event with
🩷🫶🏻.

Each year participants gather to show solidarity, support, and community around experiences of pregnancy loss, infant loss and infertility. The event was such a huge success and funds raised means more support for those impacted.

It was such a joy and treat to cheer on this year’s participants - and share a few laughs, hugs and cowbells along the way.

If this is your experience, we want you to know there are supports and people out there who get it. Reach out for you, or a friend, and we would love to help you get connected.

Curious what it is like? Below past participants share more about their experience in the program:

“I thoroughly enjoyed the 6 week program and I am grateful that such a workshop exists. It was very beneficial to me from a mental health standpoint to get out and meet other moms as well as learning some valuable information along the way. Leanne did a fantastic job facilitating and providing resources to take away as I navigate being a new mom. I would highly recommend.”

“I loved the Healthy Baby, Healthy Me program. The topics were super relevant and the guest speakers each week were all excellent. Leanne is a great facilitator and has truly created a safe and friendly space for new moms. Any new moms looking for a mom community with expert advice should do this program in a heartbeat. Bonus that the price point is very affordable.”

“I had such a wonderful experience over the past six weeks with South Rock Perinatal Wellness Collective. Leanne was incredibly organized and communicative, which made everything run smoothly and helped me feel at ease from the start. I felt genuinely supported throughout the program—not only by Leanne but also through the sense of community that developed with the other moms and their babies. It was such a comfort to share this time with others going through similar experiences. The content was thoughtfully balanced, offering valuable insights and support for both moms and babies. Each session felt purposeful, whether we were focusing on postpartum wellness or learning more about our little ones. I’m so grateful for the connection, care, and knowledge I gained—this program has been a meaningful part of my postpartum journey.”

Honouring Truth and Reconciliation - today and everyday.

Indigenous parents and parent-child bonds have been disproportionately impacted in the perinatal period and beyond - not only as a direct result of residential schools, but ongoing systemic inequities and inter generational trauma.

Today we hold the hearts of those grieving and our own grief, as allies committed to do better.

We aim to move beyond reconciliation and towards a deeper repair. Beyond the performative, to the genuine. Beyond distant compassion, to safe relationships.

The walk continues… we invite all those involved with SRPWC to commit to walking this path with us.

We promise to not only

Hello parents of babies and little ones! We wanted to let you know of a special upcoming event on Sept 22nd!

Many parents wonder how to best protect their little one’s future. Often, it’s after the birth of a baby that parents start to consider writing a will and have questions about how best to ensure their baby’s future wellbeing.

Having reliable information can be a key way to reduce anxiety around these concerns. Curious to know what steps you can take that are fitting for your family, as well as available resources?

Sept 22 at 9:15, parents with babies 0-18months are invited to a special session of Baby Belugas program at White Rock Gymnastics. Enjoy active time with your little one and access information from Brooke Fernandes of KSW Lawyers regarding wills, trusts, and general estate planning info.

In this meet and greet, you are welcome to ask questions and chat informally. Please note that this is an info session rather than personal legal advice. It is intended to make these topics feel a little more approachable and provide you with the opportunity to expand your knowledge in this area.

Stay tuned for more upcoming fall events and programs with South Rock Perinatal Wellness Collective!

Birth trauma is more common than we would like to think. Some estimates suggest 1 in 3 birthing people experience birth trauma. Of those, a portion will move on to develop PTSD symptoms requiring treatment to resolve.

Due to the nature of trauma and avoidance, it is still a topic that is largely misunderstood but awareness is growing.

Birth trauma can involve physical injury and/or emotional injury. Generally, it also often involves the experience of feeling under-supported and powerless.

What is considered traumatic varies from person to person - and that’s ok. Your experience is just that - YOUR lived experience.

So if you’re having a difficult time after your birth experience but questioning if your experience is “valid” enough to warrant support - we invite you to let that go.

You deserve to feel better and to free up your energy to enjoy your life (as well as your baby).

Not sure where to start? Feel free to reach out to us.

As we wrap up our weekly group endeavours for the summer, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude and appreciations to all those who have helped create such an amazing 2025 so far!!

Two of the programs - “Healthy Baby, Healthy Me” and “Connect: Me, We and Baby” - were brought to you by the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation Healthy Community Grant program. We would like to thank them again - their support has been a crucial part to creating these accessible, community-building efforts for perinatal families.

Thank you to all those perinatal professionals and orgs who have come alongside to help bring these programs to the South Rock area (and beyond)! It is such a treat to work with professionals who are willing to walk into a collaborative space and bring the concept of community care to life in real-time! It takes work and it is worth it.

Lastly, our biggest appreciations go to our participants! It has been such a joy to be invited into such an important and tender time in your families’ journey. What a privilege to get to know each of you in this way. We love our “work” with you and we hope it shows!

If you know of anyone who may benefit from these programs, we invite you to share our contact.

Stay tuned for ongoing community-building opportunities!
