** HELP NEEDED **
Tomorrow the petition for HST exemption for RMT’s will be presented in the House of Commons. This is something that we, as Registered Massage Thrapists and health professionals have been fighting for over the past several years. Currently massage therapy remains the only regulated health profession in Canada still subject to HST/GST - unlike physiotherapists, chiropractors, occupational therapists and mental health providers. Tax exemption would make massage therapy more affordable and accessible for Canadians who rely on it for their health and wellbeing. Therefore, today I’m asking for your help. If you have experienced the benefits of massage therapy, I ask that you reach out to your MP expressing strong support for the removal of HST on massage therapy services. Any support would be greatly appreciated! Below you will find a letter template you can use when contacting your MP. (Just fill in the spaces with brackets) And last but not least please share this post far and wide!!

RE: Tax Exemption and Progress of Bill C-323 for Massage Therapy Services in Canada
Dear Minister [MP Surname],
I am a constituent in your riding writing to express my strong support for the removal of HST/GST from massage therapy services. This change would make massage therapy more affordable and accessible for Canadians who rely on it for their health and well-being.
Massage therapy is a regulated health profession in Canada, with over 25,000 Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) nationally. Despite meeting all federal and provincial criteria for tax exemption, massage therapy remains the only regulated health profession still subject to HST/GST—unlike chiropractors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and mental health professionals.
As a patient, I’ve experienced firsthand the benefits of massage therapy in managing pain, reducing stress and anxiety, and recovering from injury. It’s a vital part of my healthcare routine, and I know many others feel the same. Numerous studies show that massage therapy reduces reliance on pharmaceuticals and helps ease the burden on our healthcare system by preventing unnecessary clinic and hospital visits.
The Ministry of Finance’s policy clearly states that health services provided by professionals regulated in at least five provinces are eligible for tax exemption. Massage therapy meets this criterion. Removing HST/GST would align with existing policy and support affordability for patients across Canada.
I’m encouraged by the progress of Bill C-323, which proposes to remove the federal portion of HST/GST from massage therapy services. Although the motion passed on June 19, 2024, and has been read twice in the House of Commons, it now requires renewed momentum to move forward toward Royal Assent.
I urge you to support this exemption and help bring fairness to massage therapy taxation. Your leadership could make a meaningful difference in the lives of your constituents and set a national precedent for equitable, accessible care.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
