📣 Improving Access to Sight‑Saving Surgery in Newfoundland & Labrador

A recent CBC report highlights the urgent need to reduce the five‑year wait time for corneal transplants in our province. As noted in the article, Newfoundland & Labrador is one of only two provinces without an eye tissue bank, leaving patients dependent on donor tissue flown in from outside the province at a higher cost than providing it here in the province.

At Jackman Eye Institute, we are proud to support the work of Dr. Nour Nofal, who currently travels to St. John’s every two months to perform these life‑changing surgeries. Her dedication ensures patients continue to receive care — but we know they deserve better, faster access.

That’s why we are committed to supporting the creation of a provincial eye tissue bank. Establishing this local resource would significantly reduce wait times, increase access to transplant tissue, and improve quality of life for patients across Newfoundland & Labrador.

Our community deserves timely care — and we’re committed to taking steps to make it a reality.
