We’re excited to welcome Meghan Smith, RMT, to the Ascend Health team.

Meghan has been practicing since 2018 and is known for delivering effective, results-driven massage therapy in a comfortable, inclusive space. She works with a wide range of issues including sports injuries, MVAs, postural strain, and work-related aches and pains.

She’s trained in RAPID NeuroFascial Reset (upper and lower body), cupping therapy, and kinesiology taping, and is always learning new techniques to better support her clients.

1. Warm Up 🙆🏻‍♀️
Shovelling is heavy work. A quick warm-up goes a long way (check out our last reel 👀).

2. Lift With Your Legs, Not Your Back 🏋🏽‍♀️
Protect your body by using proper lifting technique while shovelling.

3. Dress for Movement, Not Just Warmth 🥾
Wear boots with good traction and layers you can remove if you overheat.

4. Pace It Out 💪🏼
Use manageable scoops instead of overloading. Take breaks when needed—and don’t forget to hydrate (yes, even in the cold).

A quick reminder that recovery starts the moment you put the shovel down.

With more snow on the way, we thought it’d be helpful to share a few of our favourite pre-shovelling movements. ❄️

Shovelling snow has a way of convincing people they’re indestructible. The problem usually isn’t the snow—it’s going from zero movement to full send with no warmup.

A few minutes of intentional movement before heading outside can go a long way. Think of it less as a workout and more as an insurance policy for your back, hips, and shoulders.

As science and technology evolve, rehabilitation has to evolve with it. Too often, evidence based practice becomes a buzzword while treatment approaches stay the same as they have for 20 plus years.

Ascend Health was built to push the envelope and reflect what we think modern rehabilitation should look like. To move away from the idea that injuries rehab in isolation. If your goals involve movement, exercise, or sport performance, your rehab plan has to reflect that.

That only happens through collaboration, continued learning, and surrounding ourselves with people who are truly moving the needle.

The ACL Summit was outstanding. It was an absolute pleasure spending the weekend in Calgary learning, upskilling, and connecting with clinicians and practitioners from around the world.

Huge shoutout to and .physio and the team for putting off an incredible weekend. You guys are setting a new standard.

Huge thank you to and for sharing your knowledge.

Excited to bring this forward thinking approach back to Newfoundland, not just for ACL rehab, but for the future of performance and recovery as a whole.

Strength training isn’t optional for runners, it’s essential. Building strength improves running economy, power, and durability while reducing the risk of common overuse injuries.

A strong system allows for better force production, better control, and better resilience mile after mile.

Strength training is an essential part of general health, independence, and athletic performance, but it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Pain with one movement doesn’t mean you have to stop training.

Sometimes a small change in angle, position, or load is all it takes to make an exercise more manageable.

Modifying an exercise plan is okay.
Adjusting training volume is okay.
Seeking guidance to build that plan is okay, too.

Finding the right exercise variation or entry point is key in both rehab and strength training. If you need help with that, reach out.
