We’re excited to welcome Katrina McLaughlin, Registered Massage Therapist, to our Thorburn Road team!

Katrina McLaughlin started her therapeutic massage therapy career 23 years ago. Her treatments incorporate a unique blend of facial release, gentle joint mobilizations, Swedish massage techniques, hydrotherapy, and longevity stretching and strengthening exercises. This combination has consistently helped clients achieve effective, lasting results while also experiencing a restorative level of relaxation.

Katrina specializes in chronic pain management, sport injuries, pre/post event care, and injury prevention. She has served as a Registered Massage Therapist for three Canada Games: London, Ontario (2001); Halifax, Nova Scotia (2011); and St John's, Newfoundland (2025). She has also provided event therapy for numerous triathlons and mountain bike series throughout Ontario from 2001-2003.

Katrina values sharing where ever she can in the community. Recently, got the opportunity to work with the Kittiwake Dance Theatre providing her services with a small team of RMTs at the 2025 Nut Cracker Production.

Katrina is known for her straight forward, client-focused approach. Her mission is simple: to help your body resolve what challenges it, within her full professional capacity. She believes the key to recovery is understanding your body-how it heals, how it responds, and how you can support it to achieve your personal health goals. She values collaboration with other health professionals to ensure you receive well-rounded, optimal care.

🟣 Why Rehab Sometimes Fails (and It’s Not Your Fault)

Rehab doesn’t fail because you “didn’t try hard enough.”
It usually fails because the process breaks down somewhere.

Common reasons rehab fails:
❌ There’s no clear plan or end goal

❌ You’re told to rest for too long
❌ You don’t understand why you’re doing the exercises

❄️ Shoveling Smart During This Winter Storm ❄️

With heavy, wet snow and strong winds in the forecast (and snowfall rates up to 2–5 cm/hour!), this is prime time for back strains and heart strain if you’re not careful.

Here are some **physio-approved tips** to stay safe while clearing snow:

# # # 🟣 1. Warm Up First (Yes, Really!)

* 5 minutes of marching on the spot
* Arm circles
* Gentle back extensions
Cold muscles + heavy snow = higher injury risk.

# # # 🟢 2. Shovel Early & Often

Don’t wait for 30–60 cm to pile up. Smaller loads = less strain on your back and heart.

# # # 🟣 3. Push, Don’t Lift

Whenever possible, push the snow instead of lifting it.
If you must lift:

* Bend at the knees
* Keep the shovel close to your body
* Avoid twisting — turn your whole body

# # # 🟢 4. Pace Yourself

Heavy snow is like lifting wet concrete.
Take breaks every 10–15 minutes. If you feel:

* Chest pressure
* Shortness of breath
* Dizziness
Stop immediately.

# # # 🟣 5. Switch Sides

Alternate your grip and stance to avoid overloading one side of your back.
