🌸 Spring Cleanup: Medicine Cabinet Edition 🧼
I finally took some time today to clear out the medicine cabinet. It’s easy to forget how quickly those expiry dates sneak up on us! If you’re doing your own spring cleaning this week, here is a quick guide to doing it safely.
The "Safe Disposal" Step
Please remember not to flush old medications or toss them in the household trash. It’s much safer for our local water system to return them to a pharmacy.
How to do it: Empty all pills into a single clear, re-sealable bag.
Liquids & Creams: Keep these in their original containers but use a marker to black out your name and address for privacy.
Where to go: Most local pharmacies participate in the Ontario Medications Return Program and will take them back for free.
The Restock Checklist
Once the old stuff is gone, here are the essentials to keep on hand as we head into beach season:
✅ Fresh Sunscreen: Check those bottles! If it’s separated, lumpy, or past the expiry date, it won't protect you from a sunburn. Grab a Broad Spectrum SPF 30 or higher to stay safe on the sand. 🏖️
✅ Pain & Fever Relief: Fresh bottles of Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and Ibuprofen (Advil).
✅ Spring Allergy Support: Non-drowsy antihistamines for the upcoming pollen.
✅ Outdoor Essentials: Calamine lotion or Hydrocortisone cream for those early-season bug bites. 🌿
✅ First Aid Basics: New adhesive bandages, sterile gauze, and antibiotic ointment (Polysporin).
✅ Tools: A working digital thermometer and a good pair of tweezers (essential for tick season!).
It feels great to have a clean, organized cabinet and know exactly what’s there when you actually need it.
Has anyone else started their spring organizing yet? Any "vintage" finds in your cabinet today? 👇
