🌎March 30th is World Bipolar Awareness Day.
🎭Bipolar disorder is a medical condition that causes a person to go through cycles of depression and elevated mood (mania). Although everyone goes through emotional ups and downs, people with bipolar disorder experience mood variations that are much more extreme and can cause significant distress.
📋Depressive symptoms include loss of interest in activities, loss of energy, apathy, agitation, and sleeping or eating too much or too little. Symptoms of mania include excessive energy, decreased need for sleep, exaggerated self-esteem or grandiose delusions, and engaging in impulsive or risky behaviour. People with bipolar disorder can also experience periods of normal mood.
💊Like many other chronic illnesses, bipolar disorder can often be managed with a combination of medication and psychotherapy, allowing those with the condition to live, work, and socialise normally.
