To be eligible to take the BLS Provider Renewal Course you must hold a valid and current (non-expired) Heart & Stroke BLS certificate.

Those with expired Certificates, Canadian Red Cross BLS or CPR-HCP certificates must take a Heart & Stroke renewal assessment

This course is a fast-paced and extensive 1-day course that delivers proven methods for providing basic, urgent assistance to injured or ill adults, children, and infants.
Through a combination of instruction, demonstration, and hands-on practice, participants will learn how to determine the severity of a patient’s condition and practice safe intervention when providing them with emergency support.

This course is aimed at lay rescuers or employees who are required to receive 8 hours or less of emergency or basic first aid instruction/practice as stipulated by provincial or federal health & safety regulations.

Who requires Heart and Stroke Basic Life Support?

Basic Life Support is the fundamental course for all healthcare and emergency medical providers.

If you work for Alberta Health Services or plan to work for them, you require Heart & Stroke Basic Life Support.

You may also benefit from having your Basic Life Support level if you are a professional with a fire service or rescue team, a sports medicine professional, a lifeguard, or a ski patroller.

If you are not a first responder or medical professional, you may need CPR level C.

Course Details

The course covers single- and multi-rescuer basic life support skills with a focus on high-quality CPR and team dynamics in a wide variety of prehospital or in-facility settings.

BLS is a pre-requisite for advanced resuscitation courses and many healthcare-related training programs. A current completion card is often required for employment in the healthcare field.

• Adult 1 and 2 Rescuer BLS
• Adult Chest Compressions
• Adult Breaths (Airway, Barrier Devices, Bag-Mask Devices)
• Infant and Child 1 and 2 Rescuer BLS
