Ravenheart Equine Assisted Learning Centre & Retreat Creating safe, nurturing spaces for personal growth and wellness through equine-facilitated programs. Why Horses? Connie Kaldor (Love, Saskatchewan)

We have a deep passion for helping others feel seen and heard, particularly children and sensitive individuals, by integrating horse, nature & art. About Ravenheart Equine-Assisted Learning & Retreat Centre

Ravenheart Farms, located just 15 minutes from Kamsack, Saskatchewan, is a place of healing, growth, and self-discovery. Owned and operated by Carol Marriott, a **Certified Equine-Assisted Learning Facilitator, Ravenheart offers equine-facilitated wellness, life coaching, and personal development retreats in a peaceful, nature-based setting. Nestled on 105 acres of woodland and prairie, Ravenheart is just 10 minutes from Duck Mountain Provincial Park, making it an ideal retreat for reconnecting with nature, horses, and yourself. What We Offer

At Ravenheart, we partner with horses to support individuals, families, and groups in developing self-awareness, resilience, and emotional well-being. Our programs include:

✅ **Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) & Equine-Facilitated Wellness** – No riding involved, just meaningful, on-the-ground interactions with horses. Sessions help participants explore emotions, build confidence, and gain new perspectives in a supportive environment.

✅ Personal & Professional Development Retreats – Experience transformative workshops such as Starstruck, The Gentle Way With Horses, The Ravenheart Way, Care for the Caregiver, The Zen of Art & Horses, and Saturdays at the Barn (for youth 9–12). Custom-designed mini-retreats are also available.

✅ **Life Coaching & Grief Support** – Whether facing personal challenges, career transitions, or grief and loss, Carol provides compassionate, trauma-informed coaching to help clients move forward. Sessions are available in person, online, or by phone.

✅ Rustic Retreat Accommodations – Stay in one of our cozy heritage log cabins, explore nature trails and wetlands, and enjoy nourishing meals while immersing yourself in the healing power of horses and nature. Horses are highly intuitive and respond to our energy, emotions, and body language. Their feedback is clear, honest, and non-judgmental, making them incredible partners in personal growth and healing. Whether you're seeking stress relief, personal insight, or simply a deeper connection to yourself, Ravenheart provides a safe, welcoming space to explore new possibilities. About Carol Marriott

Toward the Light — Solstice

And here we are, at the turning.

Thank you for walking Toward the Light with us,
for slowing down, for noticing small comforts,
for choosing gentleness in a season that can feel heavy.

The horses greet the solstice much like this,
standing together, snow settling quietly on their backs,
unhurried, steady, trusting the rhythm they’ve lived through before.

Their wisdom is simple:
Stay close.
Conserve what matters.
Let the storm pass around you.

If you’d like a small solstice ritual for tomorrow:
light a candle or stand quietly outside, even for a moment.
Name one thing you’re ready to release,
and one small thing you want to carry forward as the light slowly returns.

For those who are grieving or missing someone they love,
may comfort meet you gently.
For all of us, may the returning light bring steadiness, warmth,
and reminders that we don’t have to do this alone.

From all of us at Ravenheart, animals, humans, and the land,
we wish you a peaceful solstice and a slow, kind return of the light. 🤍

A sacred grief ritual on the 11th day of Toward the Light.

I've looked through many photos to find ones to go with the post. I've rushed past many pictures of my family, friends, and animals who have passed away. I made a choice to slow down and look at each photo of a loved one, and really remember them, instead of moving quickly on to the next one.
Life is fast. We are always pushed to move through. Taking precious time with our memories can help us feel connected to those we've lost, honour them, and bring us some comfort.

This can be a comforting ritual of self-care. Light a candle, play some soft music, or music that is meaningful to you. Wrap yourself in a soft blanket. Or sit with a friend and share your memories. Cry, laugh, remember.

Toward the Light — Day 11

When we miss someone we love,
comfort and joy can be hard to come by.

Sometimes comfort looks like lighting a candle
and sitting with a photo album.
Letting yourself remember...
the sound of their voice,
the feel of their fur,
the way they were with you.

It can help to slow down and give yourself time
to be with your feelings, rather than rushing past them.
To really remember.
To let the sadness be there, alongside the love.

Grief and love live side by side.
And remembering can bring quiet comfort,
a way of staying connected
to what they gave us
and how they mattered.

Who might you want to sit with in memory for a few quiet moments?

I am remembering these 3 sweet dogs, Laddie, Charlie, and Polly. They have all crossed the rainbow bridge.

Day 10 · Toward the Light

It’s hard not to imagine warmer places when winter settles in.
Sunshine. Bare feet. Maybe a friend somewhere south with horses, dogs, donkeys, birds singing… looking very cozy indeed.

Like our friend Beate's Santuario Anamu in Mexico. I watched a video of hers today, and felt a pang of envy!
https://www.facebook.com/SantuarioAnamu

Beate knows the cold Saskatchewan prairie, but for the past 15 or so years she has made her home and created a beautiful animal sanctuary in Mexico.

A little envy happens. That’s human.

But the horses remind us there’s more than one way to feel warm. Warmth can be created. Shared. Imagined.

We can dream of other places, and still tend the light right where we are.

What brings you a sense of warmth today?

For me it is the sunshine on a cold, crisp winter day after a blizzard. Wind is gentle now, horses relax in the sun, and a sense of calm and peace returns to my heart, knowing they have all that they need to thrive and be well. Even when a new storm threatens.

Greetings everyone; It seems it is best to cancel our gathering on Sunday. With a blizzard yesterday, and more snow expected tonight and tomorrow, we don't think we'll have snow cleared and parking by Sunday, and a chance to get to town to pick up all the goodies.

We have our local neighbour, Chad, scheduled to clear our driveway but he's a busy guy and we are just not sure about the timing.

It will be cold and snowy the next few days, although today is gorgeous. The blizzard packed the snow hard so we'll be shovelling for a while here. Thankfully the horses pack down a good trail to the water shed!

We'll see about another gathering in February, with longer sun and hopefully more seasonal weather.

Thanks everyone, especially those of you who have already RSVP'd.

Enjoy the Winter Solstice in the comfort of your home with loved ones, light a candle, have a good meal, stay warm and safe, and enjoy the season. Merry Christmas!

After the storm, the horses remind us how blizzards are met.

They turn their bodies away from the wind.
They stay close.
They conserve warmth and energy.
They trust what has carried them through many storms before.

There’s something steady in that.

Toward the light doesn’t always mean pushing through.
Sometimes it means choosing what keeps us safe
until the weather changes.

This morning, I’m grateful for shelter.
For warmth.
For hay in the feeder and a door that closes against the cold.
And for friends and loved ones who are safe and sheltered too.

I’m also holding concern for those without that safety,
for people and animals who weathered the storm
without a warm place to land.

May all beings find shelter.
May care reach where it’s needed. 🤍

Who are you holding in care today?

I’m holding care for my nephew,
and for all people and animals
without shelter, warmth, or safe care. ♥♥♥
And for the many people who show up in all weather to care for all of us. ♥♥♥

Sometimes grief looks like love held in a moment.
Still held, still here, still shared.

When someone we love is gone,
the bond remains.
Carried in memory.
Still living within us.

Navarro is gone.
Legolas remains.
The love between them hasn’t vanished.
It lives on in quiet presence,
In memories,
in what still is.

Toward the light can mean
staying close to the love that remains,
and to the precious memories we carry.

🕯️
Share a memory of your beloved. Something you'll always remember and cherish, so we can know and love them too. ♥♥♥

Today I am remembering our beloved grandparents, Doris and Charlie (or Nanny & Bampa to us). Without their love and contributions to our family Christmases, they may have been bleak as our parents did not have much. I remember Christmas dinner at their cozy war time home, the big turkey dinner early afternoon, then time for play, and yummy leftovers for supper later in the evening.
