⭐️ 🎨 🎶 It’s Therapeutic Recreation Awareness Month! Stephanie is our Recreation Therapist (aka Activity Director) at McCarthy Place! She assesses, plans, implements and evaluates all the programs, fun and sparkle you see around here! Her moto: “You’re not having fun unless you’re making a mess!” 😉 Keep your eyes peeled for more fun facts about TR this month & a look into a DITL of a recreation therapist! 💕🏃‍♀️🎯

🥉🥈🥇 Our final day of our 17th Annual ASCSG began with a fun and classic game of bingo, a favourite here at our home. In the afternoon, the residents used their brains and wit in our ASC Jeopardy! We had 3 residents take home medals from that event. We enjoyed our Closing Ceremonies, lead in by piper Dan Johnson. Our distinguished guests included MP John Nater, Mayor Martin Ritsma, our Chef de Mission, Margaret (who got her FIRST medal - and gold to boot - in our Jeopardy event), and Exectuvie Director, Dan Vito. Thank you to our guests for their words of support and encouragement, and their help with our champagne toast to conclude our ceremony.
We are so proud of our amazing residents, who prove time and time again that age is just a number. Way to go McCarthy, we are proud to call this our home ❤️🥉🥈🥇

🥉🥈🥇 Day 4 started off with a “friendly” game of shuffleboard! The residents battled it out for the gold! Then we introduced our new event to the ASCSG - axe throwing! This was a highly- attended event, and produced some amazing cheering, camaraderie and fun! We were honoured to be joined by Julie Docker from The Local Community Food Centre to present our medals today. Way to go athletes! Just one more day of our games - but we are so proud of our residents! Bring it home McCarthy Place! 🥉🥈🥇

🥉🥈🥇 Day 3 of our ASCSG featured Ladder ball - where we had some WILD throws (we may have hit the ceiling, taken out a few decorations and lodged some balls in the bulkhead) but we had SO MUCH FUN! This afternoon we competed in corn hole, and were joined by Jessica from the Alzheimer Society Huron Perth. Our cheering section was on FIRE 🔥 for this event, and kept the excitement going as the finalists stepped up to throw! Thank you Jessica for presenting our medals today! Way to go McCarthy Place! 🥇🥈🥉 Day 2 of our ASCSG was our bean bag toss and pétanque events! The residents competed for the top three spots in both games! They showed strength, determination and commitment throughout. We were honoured to be joined by Sally & Lucie from Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth to present today’s medals, and for being our cheering squad during our final event! Great job residents! Let’s go for gold again tomorrow! 🥉🥈🥇

⭐️ 👠 Day 1 of our 17th Annual All Seniors Care Seniors Games (ASCSG) has officially opened! Our theme this year is a play on the classic, The Wizard of Oz, where we are embracing the iconic saying “theres no place like OUR home”. We began today walking the halls to the lively piano music by Tim Elliott. We were honoured to have Stratford Mayor, Mayor Martin Ritsma, join us for our Opening Ceremonies. A big thank you to Dan Johnson for our bagpipe processional, as well as our Chef de Mission, Margaret Lupton! The competition starts tomorrow - LETS GO MCCARTHY PLACE!!! 🥇🥈🥉

🧪 🧬 Today, our Grandbuddies joined us for a Mad Science presentation all about air! We had lots of fun watching and participating in experiments, and asking lots of questions! A big thank you to Mad Science for such a fun, interactive and educational morning! Just look at those smiles - having our Grandbuddies come is always our favourite day! 🔬⚗️🥼🧪

💚🌈 At our ASCSG Pep Rally, our Health & Wellness Director put on a one-woman rendition of The Wizard of Oz for the residents. Complete with costume changes, props & sound effects, we were transported into the beloved tale! This was such a fun and entertaining way to get into the spirit for our 17th Annual All Seniors Care Seniors Games, and truly remind us to always have fun and that “there’s no place like home”. 🌈💚
