Carrefour tried to make a recycled plastic bottle for their milk (milk is sold in bottles and cartons in France). Consumers stopped buying it. Why? Because it’s grey, not white, and looks ugly at the dinner table. So carrefour switched it back. The burden is not just on companies to change - it’s also on people to become aware, challenge their own biases and consumption patterns. You see the news - no one is coming to save us and there is no Planet B.

The lone banana accounts for 8% of waste in the produce aisles in the carrefour grocery stores. Why? Because consumers don’t want to buy bananas one piece at a time. They also don’t want to buy bananas that are a little sticky on the peel. Next time you buy bananas, how many lone ones can you take off the shelves?

CLIMATE MARCH IN PARIS. Look, you should be angry. We’ve known about climate change, the disappearing ozone layer, the effect of CO2 since at least the 80s. Nothing was done, big industry prevailed. Now is the time to change. This isn’t a hippy movement, environmentalists are not “granolas”, or just really chill people. The fact is that if we don’t change, our kids and grandkids will pay for it. Do you want to have to explain why coral and other marine life is going extinct, or why we have to breathe smog or finance hella environmental crises with our taxes to our kids?? There is room for change in EVERY industry and every household. Stop using plastic produce bags at the grocery store, use a reusable water bottle and coffee mug, don’t use plastic bags, don’t “shop til you drop” or succumb to “retail therapy”. Buy things that last, can be repaired, and ARENT made out of plastic. You can make so much change on an individual level by pointing out problems and suggesting alternatives. Please, take responsibility for our impact, make change, make use of your wallet and your voice and choose to stand up for our ONE planet. @ Paris, France

Today I dropped off all the old clothes that I either forgot about while travelling, never really fit me well, or that I didn’t wear at least once every two weeks. I got rid of most of the clothes I wear once or twice a year (except my Christmas and st Patty’s sweaters), and I delivered them to H&M, who recycles the clothes to make into new. I replaced this full bin with two items towards my smaller wardrobe: classic black slacks and a white work shirt. The textile industry is the second most polluting in the world. If you want to help make a difference to combat climate change, take a good hard look at your consumption of fast fashion. Buy things that last, are timeless, and that you LOVE. retail therapy is not sustainable - I’m convinced that was a marketer-developed term to get us buying more and to feel less guilty for spending so much on clothes. If you need to get rid of ANY textiles - whether they’re stained, ripped, unwearable - bring them to H&M. I also got $50 worth of coupons for my contribution :) &m @ H&M

Highly recommend Kate Raworth’s donut economics to anyone who’s interested in sustainability and business. I often feel frustrated that the success of our system relies on consumption and at this point, waste being produced. Along with changes to our actual products, Raworth suggests that we need a new model all together - one that recognizes our informal and casual economies - the sharing economy, the free work economy (elder care, childcare, stay at home moms and dads...). She’s made a model where there are the 9 external factors that will push the environment too far to support our economic activity, and the inner circle which represents 12 elements that we need for an equal society. Has she left anything out or did she get it right? What do you think?

I’ve been looking for natural, plastic-free packaging deodorant and toothpaste. I made my own toothpaste but I’m not ready to make the full jump away from fluoride. Does anyone have suggestions for plastic-free packaging toothpaste or deodorant?

I had a teacher once say that the days we make it to the mat are all a success, no matter how “good” our practice is once we get there. Yoga is about patience, getting rid of our egos, and gaining stronger awareness and sometimes that just means awareness of our limits. No two days are the same!! This is the best I could do with the headstand yesterday, and that’s normal! Just keep practicing ❤️

About Me

Sustainable Kelsea's Yoga is offered as a downtown outdoor escape to residents and visitors of Stratford, Ontario. Having studied yoga in India and Bali and practiced in Canada, Europe, China, and the Philippines, I’m excited to bring everything I’ve learned to the practice we’ll share. I’m offering primarily private lessons and I’m interested in partnerships with businesses in the Stratford area.

Looking forward to connecting with you!
