This Indigenous Disability Awareness Month, we honour the strength, wisdom, and lived experiences of Indigenous peoples with disabilities. Their stories remind us of the deep, interwoven connections between wellness, identity, culture, and community.
For generations, Indigenous communities have understood the healing power of relationship—relationship to land, to animals, to nature, to ancestors, and to one another. These holistic teachings recognize that wellness is not just physical or emotional, but spiritual, relational, and rooted in place. They offer a powerful reminder that healing happens when all parts of a person are seen, valued, and supported.
Indigenous Disability Awareness Month invites us to reflect, to listen, and to uplift the voices of Indigenous people with disabilities who continue to advocate for inclusion, accessibility, and culturally grounded care. It calls on all of us to honour diverse ways of knowing and to create spaces where every person can experience belonging and wellness.
At Dreamcatcher™, these teachings continue to guide and inspire us. While we are not an Indigenous organization, we strive to honour the holistic approaches that have long existed in Indigenous communities—approaches that centre connection, respect, and relationship. Through nature-assisted and animal-assisted therapy, we aim to create spaces where individuals of all backgrounds, including Indigenous people with disabilities, can access care that feels safe, inclusive, and responsive to their needs.
This month and always, we remain committed to listening, learning, and ensuring our services support the whole person—mind, body, spirit, and connection to the natural world.
True healing honours all of who we are.
