🎃 Halloween Safety Tips from SAFEblu! 🕸️

Trick-or-treating should be all fun and no fright! Follow these tips to keep your little ghouls and goblins safe:

👻 Light the Way - Carry flashlights or glow sticks and make sure costumes are visible.
🕷️ Costume Check - Avoid long, trailing costumes and masks that block vision.
🍬 Candy Inspect - Only eat treats that are sealed and check for allergens.
🏡 Stick to the Streets - Stay in well-lit areas and always cross at corners.
🧙 Adult Supervision - Young children should always go out with a grown-up.
🚗 Be Street Smart - Watch for cars and always walk on sidewalks.
💀 Phone Ready - Keep a charged phone handy in case of emergencies.

Time to “Fall Back"

That’s right - Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend!
So before you get cozy on Saturday night (November 2), don’t forget to turn your clocks back one hour.
The official switch happens at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 3!

Here are a few fun reminders to make the most of the time change:
✅ Swap the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors.
✅ Double-check those “forgotten” clocks. Ovens, microwaves, and car dashboards are sneaky!
✅ Turn on your headlights a little earlier in the evenings.
✅ Enjoy that brighter morning light with a warm drink and a slow start.

Did you know?
Not everyone changes their clocks - Saskatchewan and parts of B.C. skip it altogether!
The idea of DST has been around for over 100 years to “save daylight” and energy.
Even a one-hour shift can mess with your sleep, so take it easy Sunday morning.

Lithium-ion batteries power our everyday devices, but if used incorrectly, they can become a serious fire hazard. Here's what you need to know to stay safe:

⚠️ Fast Facts About Lithium-Ion Batteries

✅ They're Everywhere
Phones, laptops, e-bikes, toys, power tools , even toothbrushes!
🔥 They Can Catch Fire
Overheating, damage, or improper charging can cause fires or even explosions.

🚫 Common Causes of Battery Fires
Using cheap or counterfeit chargers
Charging overnight or on soft surfaces
Damaging or puncturing the battery
Leaving batteries in hot places (like cars or garages)

🔌 Safe Charging Tips
Use the original charger
Charge on hard, flat surfaces
Unplug when full - don’t overcharge
Keep away from flammables

♻️ NEVER Throw Batteries in the Trash!
They can spark fires in trash trucks or landfills.
Take them to certified e-waste or battery recycling locations.

🚨 Warning Signs of Trouble:
Swelling or leaking
Hot to the touch
Hissing or smokey

👉 If you notice any of these: Stop using it, move it away from flammable materials, and call 911 if needed.
