Hi, I’m Stephanie, and I support Strathroy Hospice!

In my life I have had life experiences that have changed me, seeing first had the impact of hospice care is one of them.

I know that compassionate, specialized care in our community will bring comfort and dignity to those living with life-limiting illnesses, while surrounding their families with the support they need during life’s most difficult moments. Our community deserves that care close to home.

Hi, I’m Tyler, and I support Strathroy Hospice!

I believe in building a stronger community where people feel supported, especially during life’s hardest moments. Through personal experience with my father-in- law and my involvement with Community Over Cancer, I’ve seen the deep need for a homelike, compassionate and safe space for families during the final stages of life..

That is why Strathroy Hospice became a shared vision among my fellow board members and myself . We are committed to creating something that will make a meaningful difference for our community, families, friends, neighbours, and loved ones.

My commitment comes from a genuine desire to make Strathroy-Caradoc and the surrounding area a better place. I want a place where my parents, my family, my friends, my patients, and my community can go to find peace, compassion and care during life's darkest moments. A place where families can focus on love, connection, and being together when it matters the most.

Did you know that women played a major role in shaping the modern hospice movement?

In 1967, Cicely Saunders founded a Hospice in Europe that is widely recognized as the first modern hospice, and helped transform end-of-life care. She introduced the concept of “total pain,” recognizing that people nearing the end of life experience suffering not only physically, but also emotionally, socially, and spiritually.

Her work inspired others, including Florence Wald, who helped bring hospice care to North America and supported the development of community-based programs focused on comfort, dignity, and family-centred care.

For centuries, women have been at the heart of caring for people who are ill or nearing the end of life, and that legacy continues today, including in our community.

We are especially grateful for the incredible women on the Strathroy Hospice board. Their insight, skills, dedication, and passion for our mission continue to help us move forward as we work to bring a hospice to Strathroy.

We want to thank, recognize, and celebrate their contributions, as well as those of the countless women who have helped shape hospice and palliative care around the world.
