I am Erin Moyen, founder and director of Chavah Childbirth Services Inc.

I am a wife. I am a mother to 3 lovely humans and 3 angel babes. Our children are 24, 23 & 16.✨

I have been supporting and educating childbearing & postpartum families for 20 years!🤰🏼📚🤱🏽

As the Director and one of the Educators with the I share knowledge and equip the next generation of doulas. As a doula trainer and a doula mentor I have trained doulas from all over the world.🌎

I am originally from Vancouver Island, and miss the ocean, lakes, and our eldest daughter EVERY DAY! 🌊

Our family lives on a cattle and hay farm Northwest of Cochrane. It’s peaceful and we love it! 🌾🐮

In addition to being a pregnancy, birth & postpartum guru, I am also a phlebotomist.🩸💉 🏥

Summer is my favourite season. I believe I’m solar powered☀️

I am a lifelong learner of all things maternal-child health! There are always new studies to review, courses to take and evidence-based information to share.

In all aspects of life I am heart-centred, organized and intentional.

The term “doula” is a title for those individuals who surround, interact with, and aid the mother at any time within the perinatal period, including pregnancy, birth, and lactation.

Although the use of the word “doula” is newer, the concept of birth work, and of being present for fellow community members in birth, is a longstanding shared cultural practice, rooted deep in human histories.

The function of the doula varies in different cultures from a little help here and there to complete support. Whatever the doula does, however, is less important than the fact that she is there.

Doula support matters even when things are going well.

As a Doula I make sure both the birther and partner feel supported. Walking alongside couples as they welcome their precious babes is a privilege that is never lost on me.

Start Well! Breastfeeding Initiation🤱

✔️Healthy newborns should be placed immediately skin-to-skin with their mother and remain there until after the first breastfeed is complete.

✔️Without removing the baby, doctors, nurses or midwives can conduct the first physical assessment of baby while he/she is on the mother’s chest.

✔️Conventional procedures such as weighing, measuring, bathing, injections or blood test can wait until after the first feeding.

✔️Baby and mother should remain together throughout the recovery period.

BREASTFEEDING - Are pacifiers a friend or foe?
All parents deserve to know that there is sufficient evidence linking breastfeeding challenges and pacifier use.
Pacifier use may affect the baby’s ability to latch deeply + transfer milk effectively. The volume of milk production may also be affected, as well as breastfeeding duration.
Using a pacifier can lead to missed infant cues (meaning missed opportunities to breastfeed) and in some cases a baby with insufficient weight gain.
As a lactation support specialist my recommendation is to avoid the use of pacifiers whenever possible, or at least until breastfeeding is well established, around 4-6 weeks following birth.
