Such a lovely testimonial from a family I just finished my work with.

They were first time parents struggling with breastfeeding and getting some sleep. I did overnight sessions for almost two months and we made amazing progress together. I’m so pleased to know that their breastfeeding goals have been realized. It’s amazing how far we all came together.

I am the lucky one. 💙

Such a great day. Today I spent the day with hundreds of parents and their adorable little people.

and I talked birth, postpartum and sleep! It was invigorating and inspiring. So many other wonderful vendors as well. And I got quite a snuggle from my little borrowed baby too.

If you were there and found my account from Child Day, comment below and say “hi!”

So thrilled to hear that , due to the advocacy of many hardworking birthworkers in the background, announced hiring of two full time indigenous doulas. This is amazing news for the doula community and for indigenous birthing parents. I love seeing a health authority following science and taking care of birthing people. 💙

Job posting linked below for birth workers interested.

Yes! And let’s not just celebrate the mama, but let’s check in on her too.

For people who experienced birth trauma, their child’s birthday may be a triggering day where all of the fear, panic, and trauma may come flooding back. This is common on anniversaries of a traumatic event (sometimes called a “traumaversary”).

Let’s not assume that a child’s first birthday is 100% a happy event for all. It’s ok to have mixed feelings on this day. I often encourage my clients with birth trauma to carve out a window of time on their child’s birthday to tend to their own emotions and do whatever they need to acknowledge this day and whatever it may mean for them.

Partners, friends, family members - check in on the mamas in your life if their child is having a birthday and you know that the birth wasn’t an easy event for them. They may be struggling more than you know and feeling unable to voice their pain 🩷

We are so happy you are here and hope you can take a few minutes today to enjoy your day.

We know it’s thankless some days and wonderfully rewarding other days.

No matter how you became a mother, we are thinking of you today.

You are not obligated to make the same decisions that your friends did regarding your birth choices!

Maybe you had a friend who had an epidural and wouldn’t have had it any other way. It’s still OK to opt for a medication free birth.

Maybe your mother had home birth but the hospital birth feels like the right choice for you. It’s ok for you to opt for a hospital birth!

As doulas, we support birth on your terms, whatever those terms are!

First off, let me start by saying I did not create this image. That being said, there’s many things I agree with in these words.

I am a foster, adoptive and biological mother. I work almost full-time and raise seven kids. I homeschool two of them and at least four of them have special needs. I get called a supermom all the time. (It drives me crazy though, but that’s another rant).

Where I disagree with this image is where it says they are all overwhelmed near the bottom. I don’t believe that all parents who get referred to as super mom or super dad, or super parent, are necessarily overwhelmed. But obviously many are.

And the bottom line is: WE CAN ALL USE HELP SOMETIMES

Asking for help is a skill that does not come naturally to me and I focus on almost every day. Most parents want to come across as competent, caring, and independent. But the reality is we need each other.

I’ve worked very hard over the past 18 years to build a village around me, whom I can trust to support me on my best days and on my worst days. It was not an easy process, but it was possible. I encourage all parents to do the same. Whether you have one grown child, part time custody of a child, or you’re raising money on your own. We all need a village.

Why does feeling empowered in your birth matter? Because it’s the first moment of the rest of your life. Every time. With each birth you evolve, personally, maternally, and as a family into a new and spectacular version of reality. Take the first step into your bold new horizon with power and grace. It’s your life; your world, your family and it starts with your birth 🤎.

I love this quote so much because it is actually normal to have a homebirth, midwife, and a doula!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s not just some trend. It has been happening for many generations and it has never been a lost practice. This is just how it was. This is still how it is today. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there were 66,170 home births in the United States in 2019. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Be confident in your choices you are making for your birth experience. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❓Who is having a homebirth, midwife, and/or doula? ❓⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
