Bow pose / dhanurasana is a great backbend that opens your heart chakra and strengthen the back body including shoulders, glutes and hamstrings.
Begin by lying flat on your tummy; bend your knees and bring your heels as close as you can to your buttocks; then rotating your shoulders, reach back with both hands and hold onto your ankles.
On an inhalation, lift your heels up towards the ceiling , drawing your thighs up and off the mat. Your head, chest, and upper torso will also lift off the mat.
Practice this for at least 10 seconds first and then slowly progress to 30 seconds and 60 secs.
It should not be practiced by people with high or low blood pressure issues or by someone who experience migraines or insomnia quite often.
Aim higher every time.
