When someone you care about is grieving, it’s natural to feel unsure of how to help. The truth is, support doesn’t require the perfect words, just patience, presence, and continued care. Small acts of kindness, checking in over time, and respecting how each person grieves can make a lasting difference.

On Sunday December 14th, Avalon Surrey Funeral Home was invited to attend the holy mass at St. George Coptic Church.

The mass was held in a local elementary school's gym, due to a devastating fire in 2021 that completely destroyed their 70-year-old church in Surrey.

Since this tragedy, their congregation has been renting various facilities for their gatherings and events.

Reconstruction of their sanctuary will indeed take a long time, but the cheer from children and energy from youth assured me that it will definitely happen soon.

I felt super grateful donating this $10,000 cheque by Arbor Memorial Foundation for this project. The entire congregation thanked us with tears and applause.

The following YouTube shares their sorrow and hope after the tragedy:

Thank you again Arbor Memorial for this very meaningful donation to St. George Coptic Church.
