✨Weekly Sound Spotlight!✨

This week’s sound is “f.” Sometimes, we call this our Bunny Teeth Sound. The “f” sound is made by placing the top teeth on the bottom lip and blowing air out with the voice turned off.

Common errors we sometimes hear include “f” sounding like “p” or “b.” Practicing slowly and focusing on keeping the teeth on the lip while blowing air can really help. A helpful tip is to gently bite your bottom lip and blow air like you’re blowing out a candle!

From a developmental perspective, the “f” sound is typically acquired by around 4 years of age, though some children may still be refining it as they grow.

Stay tuned each week for a new sound and fun tips to help support your child’s speech development! 🎉

Material Highlight: Auditory Memory Activity

This activity targets a variety of important speech and language skills in a fun and interactive way.

Clients listen to a short story and then have opportunities to:
• Answer WH- questions about the plot
• Sequence pictures in the correct order
• Retell the story with or without visual supports

These tasks help build auditory memory, listening comprehension, and narrative skills, which are essential for success in both academic and everyday communication.

Using visuals alongside listening tasks can also provide extra support, helping children better organize and recall information. 🧠

✨ Weekly Sound Spotlight! ✨

This week’s sound is “g.” Sometimes, we call this our Gargling Sound. The “g” sound is made by lifting the back of the tongue to the roof of the mouth, building up air, and releasing it while turning the voice on.
Common errors we sometimes hear include “g” sounding like “d,” or the sound being left out of words entirely. Practicing slowly and focusing on using the back of the tongue can really help. A helpful tip is to place your hand on your throat — you should feel a little buzz when your voice turns on for the “g” sound!

From a developmental perspective, the “g” sound is typically acquired by around 4 years of age.

Stay tuned each week for a new sound and fun tips to help support your child’s speech development! 🎉

Game Highlight: Scrabble Junior!

Did you know that many games used in speech therapy are designed to build important communication skills?

Scrabble Junior is a great tool for supporting language and speech development while keeping learning fun and engaging.

This game can help children practice:
• Vocabulary and word learning
• Letter recognition and early spelling
• Turn-taking and social communication
• Commenting and conversation skills
• Practicing speech sounds in words

Games like this allow children to practice communication in a natural, motivating way, which is why play is such an important part of speech therapy.

Learning through play helps children build confidence while developing the skills they need for everyday communication. 💬

✨ Weekly Sound Spotlight ✨

This week’s sound is “k.” Sometimes, we call this our Coughing or Knocking Sound. The “k” sound is made by lifting the back of the tongue to the roof of the mouth, building up air, and releasing it with the voice turned off.

Common errors we sometimes hear include “k” sounding like “t,” or the sound being left out of words. Practicing strong back-of-the-mouth sounds and exaggerating the air release can really help.

From a developmental perspective, the “k” sound is typically acquired by around 4 years of age, though some children may still be refining it as they grow.
