1. Runner’s Knee (Patellofemoral Syndrome)
Symptoms: Pain in the front of the knee or around the kneecap.
Reasons: This may occur because you’ve done too much too soon, your running gait may need to be improved, or you’re running on a surface you’re not familiar with.
How MASSAGE THERAPY can help: We can help assess where the pain is coming from. Is your running form? Is there weakness in your hips? Etc. We can target what areas need to be worked on to decrease the pain, stimulate muscles needed to help prevent the pain from coming on, and provide you with necessary exercises and/or stretches.

2. Achilles tendinitis
Symptoms: Dull pain in the back of your leg above your heel, swelling along your achilles tendon, limited range when you flex your foot toward your shin
Reasons: Increasing your mileage or the intensity of your running, change in surface, or incorrect shoe fitting

3. IT band syndrome
Symptoms: Pain on the outside of your knee often occurs when you bend.
Reasons: Weak gluteal muscles, abdominals, or hips. Running form needs to be improved.
How MASSAGE THERAPY can help: We can help by assessing strength in your hips and core and verify if there is compensation occurring when you bend your knee. From there are therapists can help decrease trigger points and increase mobility to help reduce the tightness of the IT band.
