A reminder, the Canada Dental Benefit was brought in last year to provide up to $1,300 over two years for uninsured children to receive treatment.

The amount of the benefit is based on a family's net income, which must be less than $90,000 per year. Depending on a family's net income, a tax-free payment of $260, $390, or $650 is available for each eligible child.

To get the benefit, parents and guardians have to attest that their child does not have access to private dental care coverage and that they will use the benefit to pay for dental services.

The program is now accepting the second round of applications for dental work done between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024. Prevention for kids goes a long way!

On the radar, the Canada Dental Benefit will likely start in the next few months. Each year, for the next two years, the government will pay $650 per child to families that earn $90,000 or less to cover the cost of dental visits. Further changes will likely happen before full implementation in 2025. Applications will likely begin after December 1, click the link below for further details:

The government is proposing the new interim Canada Dental Benefit that would give financial support to eligible parents and guardians who earn less than $90,000 per year and do not have access to private dental insurance for their children under 12 years old.

Some foods are worse for your than others. No surprise, but sugary and sticky foods are the worst. Whole fruits are good but juices remove fibre that slow tooth decay and juices are best kept limited. And drinking lots of water also slow bacterial decay.

When assessing how likely a given meal, snack or drink is to harm your dental health, there are two main things to consider, experts say.
