What I will be doing professionally: All clients will be screened. They will not be scheduled for an appointment if they have traveled outside the province/country within the last 14 days, if they have any one or more of the symptoms associated with COVID-19 infection (fever, chills, shortness of breath, sore throat, cough, loss of a sense of smell), if they have been in contact with someone with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis or displaying any symptoms of an infection, or cannot attend their appointment alone. All clients will be instructed to take the "BC COVID-19 Symptom Self-Assessment Test" the day before their appointment and I will be calling each one personally to ensure it has been done. Upon arrival each person will be re-screened and, with their consent, have their temperature taken with the infrared thermometer. If they have a fever or confirm the presence of any other COVID-19 symptoms, their appointment will be cancelled and they will be instructed to return home and call 811 for further instructions.
The treatment room will look a little different as the regular chairs have been replaced with metal and vinyl chairs to ensure better sanitization during cleaning. All laundry will be stored outside in plastic bags. Pillows will be covered in vinyl to ensure better sanitization. All contacted surfaces will be sanitized between each treatment. This will include the massage table, light switches, chairs, coat hanger, door k***s. I will be wearing safety glasses and a mask. I will also be changing my shirt between appointments.
Your experience will be different than usual, as well. You will be instructed to arrive precisely on time for your appointment so I can meet you at the door and open it for you. You must then wash your hands prior to entering the treatment room. Wearing a mask is recommended (although the evidence for mask use as a preventative measure for both contracting and spreading COVID-19 is not clear, it may still help reduce the amount of times you touch your face, which is one of the ways in which infection can occur). You may bring your own or one will be provided for you. It is only "necessary" to wear this when you are laying on your side or on your back). It is perfectly acceptable if you prefer not to wear one.
Following your treatment, I will excuse myself to wash my hands and will return to open the door for you. I will wait outside until you tell me through the closed door that you are ready to exit the room. I will then open the door using a tissue. Payment will be accepted using the "tap" option of your credit/debit card or via etransfer. Touching the pinpad is not recommended. A receipt will be sent to you via email or text; no paper receipts will be issued. You will then be required to wash your hands once more. I will then hold the door open for you to exit the building.
For you: self-screening: clients must not make an appointment if they have traveled outside the province or country within the last 14 days, if they have been in contact with someone with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis or have been displaying any of the symptoms of a COVID-19 infection, or if they cannot attend their appointment alone. They are required to take the "BC COVID-19 Symptom Self-Assessment Test" (available at bc.thrive.health) the day before their appointment and cancel their appointment if they have any of the listed symptoms. Upon arrival each client must wait outside the clinic for me to open the door for them (you can also call or text me to let me know you are outside if I am not standing at the door).
All of these measures are put into place to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission, but the nature of massage therapy means that social/physical distancing is not possible in the treatment room, and we simply cannot guarantee that a person will not become infected. All clients will therefore be required to sign a waiver. This will be sent to you in an email.
Thank you for reading and we hope to see you soon.
