Makaila is a skilled Registered Veterinary Technologist who works with us one day a week at the SW Animal Health Centre . She spends the rest of her work time at the Associate Pet Hospital. She brings dedication and compassion to every task she takes on, Though she is shy by nature, her calm demeanor makes her a steady presence in the barn and clinic alike. Her attention to detail and gentle touch earns the trust of both animals and clients, and her coworkers appreciate her reliability and quiet professionalism. Even in her limited time on the job over here at SWAHC, Makaila's care and competence make a notable difference.

🩺It's National Registered Veterinary Technologist week, well actually RVT month!🩺
Veterinary technicians play an essential role in our large animal veterinary practice, where their expertise is crucial to both animal care and the smooth operation of the clinic. They assist veterinarians with a variety of tasks such as administering medications, conducting lab tests, and assisting with surgical procedures. In large animal practices, where animals are often more challenging to handle due to their size, veterinary technicians are invaluable in ensuring the safety and comfort of both animals and their handlers. Their skills in restraint, monitoring anesthesia, and taking vital signs help ensure that animals receive the best care possible. Additionally, they often act as a point of communication between the client and the veterinarian, providing owners with information about animal health, preventive care, and post-operative instructions. Their ability to manage the day-to-day operations of the practice, coupled with their technical knowledge, makes them indispensable in maintaining the health and well-being of large animals in a busy veterinary setting.

Lets talk about Ergot!
We have been hearing about many fields being infected this year. Unfortunately this means many unwanted side effects for our livestock that are fed it. Reduced feed intake, lameness, gangrene of extremities and pregnancy loss can all be symptoms.
Do you want to find out if you feed is contaminated?
We send out samples to the lab in Saskatoon (Prairie Diagnostic Services) to help confirm if there is a problem and quantify the amount you have.
Bring us in a sample of the affected grain/feed (about 1KG) and we can have it tested for you.
