Turnstone Psychology offers free mental health assessment for Veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces and current or retired RCMP members (assessments are billed directly to VAC). These assessments can be completed in person or virtually with clients in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. We prioritize these assessments and aim to complete them within 4-8 weeks of the initial request.

As part of the application for disability benefits, a thorough report summarizing the results of the psychological assessment is produced in addition to completing the VAC Psychological/Psychiatric Medical Questionnaire. We aim to make the best case possible to support the client's application for disability benefits, accurately describing the client's mental health history and linking their symptoms to their service whenever possible.

Many clients choose to continue with psychotherapy services following their assessment. Most clients have coverage for 2 years of treatment regardless of the outcome of their application for disability benefits

For more info or to request an assessment, please contact Turnstone Psychology by calling or texting 902-322-6301 or by emailing info@turnstonepsychology.ca

Meet Dr. Jennifer Gould.

Jen works with children, youth, and adults, providing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health and neurodevelopmental disorders.

If you’ve ever watched someone do an 18-point parallel park, down town (before giving up and driving away!), that’s her! 🤭

When she’s not working, she’s at home trying to manage a zoo: a pug and three exotic animals (i.e., her kids 😂).

Meet Dr. Jeff MacLeod.

Jeff works with youth and adults, providing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a variety of neurodevelopmental and mental health disorders.

When he’s not trying to avoid a calf injury while on his regular run, he can be found bird watching. 😂

Meet Ms. Christina Crowdis, our Administrative Assistant, whom, to put simply, we would be lost without! Soon after meeting Christina, we discovered that she is just as passionate about mental health care as us. She cares so deeply about our clients and makes a special effort to get to know each one and to make them feel at home. Christina eagerly responds to questions and concerns from those inquiring about services. And, perhaps most important, she regularly replenishes our treat jar and helps folks make warm coffees, teas, and hot chocolate! We are so grateful for her ❤️ and she would love to hear from you if you are contemplating reaching out😊

Hi there!

Just popping on to send a quick note to potential new clients and to validate a common experience of those contemplating an initial appointment.

Seeking mental health services can be an anxiety-provoking experience. This may be related to many factors, including previous experiences with mental health services or nervousness about the unknown.

We would love to ease your anxiety and facilitate this process. For little ones, we are more than happy to do “mini exposures” before an initial appointment. This may involve coming to the Medical Arts Building a few days before your appointment to say a quick “Hello” in the waiting room or hallway; to meet for a short chat in the building foyer; or to have your little one drop by for a treat and to check out some of our cool fidgets 😉 For adults, we are more than happy to hear your concerns, answer questions, and walk you through the process.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can call or text our administrative assistant, Ms. Christina Crowdis, at 902-322-6301, or email at info@turnstonepsychology.ca
