🎉🩵WIN THE TEAL TO HEAL JACKPOT! 🩵🎉
The Teal to Heal - Unama'ki Cape Breton 50/50 draw is now ONLINE, and you can grab your tickets any time before the draw on May 10!
The more tickets sold the bigger the jackpot!
Every ticket supports patients and families in our community facing gynecological cancer, with proceeds staying right here in Cape Breton through our Foundation.
These incredible folks became our first ever direct mail sponsor in 2024 and have since sponsored three annual letters to donors.
This year, they’re matching all incoming donations in response to our latest mail-out, up to $5,000! Their generosity is directly supporting the Clear Path Forward Campaign, which aims to replace an aging CT Scanner at the CBRH, bring a new technology to the Island for the first time, and help Cape Bretoners receive quicker diagnoses, when they need it most.
Thank you to the Subway team and owner Emily Pelley for supporting our Foundation, the Clear Path Forward Campaign, and patients in Cape Breton.

💜🍀$12,000 raised – THANK YOU! 🍀💜
Irish Jersey Night 2026 was worth the wait.
Our community showed up, once again, and showcased their support - for our wonderful partners, the Cape Breton Eagles , for our guest of honour, Suzanne Aucoin, and for those in our community facing cancer diagnoses.
Because of your generosity, $12,000 was raised for the Tom McNeil Cancer Patient Care Fund.
This vital fund supports 75 -100 Cape Breton Cancer Patients each month by helping cover travel costs to specialist appointments, medications not funded though insurance, and other unexpected expenses during treatment.
THANK YOU to our generous sponsors, Cape Breton Beverages , Colbourne Auto (Colbourne Ford and Colbourne Chrysler ) and S*M Trucking Ltd., who ensure that 100% of proceeds from this special night go directly to the fund and to local patients when they need it most.
To everyone who bought a raffle ticket, volunteered, or cheered from the stands, THANK YOU! Your support makes a real difference for families, right here, at home. 💜

💜 Honouring Suzanne Aucoin at Irish Jersey Night 💜
This Wednesday, April 1, during Irish Jersey Night, we are proud to honour Suzanne Aucoin. 💜
Suzanne is a devoted mother and a valued member of our community. Raised in Blacketts Lake, she built both her life and career around caring for others.
Following the pandemic, Suzanne decided to make a shift from being a community pharmacist and began working with the Pharmacy Association of Nova Scotia. This role had a focus on the Community Pharmacy Primary Care Clinic Pilot Project to help make health care more accessible in Nova Scotia communities.
On January 10, 2025, Suzanne went for her first routine mammogram. Within days, her life changed. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy in February, followed by four rounds of chemotherapy and 15 rounds of radiation. She continues to receive preventive therapy today.
A cancer diagnosis changes everything in an instant. Suzanne has chosen to use her experience to encourage others to prioritize screening, ask questions, and advocate for themselves. Her openness is helping others feel less alone. 💜
“I feel lucky to have been able to have my treatments here, surrounded by friends and family,” shares Suzanne. “We are fortunate to have help from the Hospital Foundation for things that are not covered but improve care during the journey.”
On Wednesday, as the Cape Breton Eagles take on the Newfoundland Regiment, we will also come together in support of the Tom McNeil Cancer Patient Care Fund, which supports 75 to 100 patients each month right here at home.
Join us as we celebrate strength, resilience, and the power of community. 💜

💜 Thank you to the friends and family of Ashley Hareguy 💜
Recently, Ashley’s loved ones came together to celebrate what would have been her 40th birthday, raising $1,500 in support of the Tom McNeil Cancer Patient Care Fund - a beautiful tribute to someone who always loved a reason to dress up and bring people together.
In 2020, Ashley learned she was living with a brain tumour. In 2023, she launched Go Grey in May Cape Breton, supporting others in our community facing the same diagnosis. Ashley passed away in August 2025 after a courageous battle.
Her friends shared that even during her journey, Ashley continued to smile, a reflection of her strength and positivity.
Through this celebration, her friends and family are continuing the impact she made in our community.
We are so grateful for this meaningful tribute and the generosity shown in Ashley’s memory. 💜

Waiting.
That’s what patients often say is the hardest part. Waiting on answers, on diagnoses, and on treatment plans.
Which is why we are proud to share our newest campaign, A Clear Path Forward, which aims to reduce this period of uncertainty for Cape Bretoners by advancing Diagnostic Imaging and Pathology at the CBRH.
Through this campaign, we aim to:
💜 replace one of two CT scanners that has reached end of life, impacting up to 100 patients per day
💜 bring a Leica Slide Scanner to CBRH for the first time ever, allowing for real-time consultations and second opinions on thousands of tissue samples each year
💜 improve pathology turnaround times with key equipment and workstations, helping reduce some critical diagnoses from days to as little as 60 minutes
When you support the Clear Path Forward campaign, you help place vital tools in the hands of our Island’s health care experts. You help people across Cape Breton Island to access timely answers, accurate diagnoses, and the best possible care, close to home. You help ensure patients and families have a clear path forward, when they need it most.

When you give to a charity, you want to know it will affect the people you care about. The Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation is proud to assure you that 100% of money raised stays in Cape Breton to treat our community.
In 1982, a group of community leaders, led by Cape Bretoner Jack Yazer, developed a vision – that vision was the creation of a health care complex designed to deliver leading edge medical services in Cape Breton – allowing more Cape Bretoners to receive care closer to home.
When construction began in 1990, the Foundation began fundraising. In 1991, they launched a $6M fundraising drive. $3M of that total was committed to hospital construction. $3M was committed to constructing and equipping a Cancer Centre that would offer treatment to those who were receiving care in Halifax.
Today, it’s the second largest acute care facility in Nova Scotia. Since 1991, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation has raised more than $38 million for healthcare in Cape Breton.
The Cape Breton Regional Hospital is the only hospital in Nova Scotia to offer all of the following services under one roof: Operating Rooms, Cardiac Services, Cape Breton Cancer Centre, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatrics Unit, Renal Dialysis Unit, Intensive Care Unit/Coronary Care Unit, Palliative Care Unit, & Mental Health and Addiction Services
As the major referral Centre for Cape Breton, the Regional Hospital treats more than 100,000 patients each year, providing acute and trauma care, emergency services, clinical services, and surgery. Because of our donors, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation has been able to fund many important medical projects.
The Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation also holds multiple funds that are 100% donor funded, including: the Pediatrics TLC Fund, the Mom & Baby TLC Fund and the Cancer Patient Care Fund, Caleb’s Courage, etc.. These funds help patients and their families in times of need. Illness can be a financial burden for many of our patients at the Regional Hospital, and these funds help to alleviate some of the financial stress.
The Cape Breton Regional Hospital employs more than 1,800 health care providers who work with 270 hospital and community-based physicians.
The Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation is proud to say that every single dollar raised here in Cape Breton stays in Cape Breton. The Regional Hospital was built after much community fundraising. Today, after more than 30 years of giving, this spirit of charity continues and donors fund priority healthcare needs for Cape Bretoners.
