To our donors: The Renal Dialysis Team says THANK YOU!💜
(And so do we!).
Thanks to your generosity, more than 100 Renal Dialysis patients each week now have access to a new ice machine.
Though it may sound simple, this machine can have a large impact on patients who are undergoing many hours of tests, appointments and treatments. Ice chips can help combat dehydration and other symptoms renal patients experience like nausea, dry mouth, and more.
Please know your generosity is helping to provide a little bit of comfort and care to our fellow Cape Bretoners in need.
Thank you! 💜

Happy anniversary, Thomas! 💜
This month, we celebrate 3 years of Thomas Xidos as our Financial Officer. Thomas is so much more than our 'numbers guy' - he also brings a big heart to everything he does.
He works hand‑in‑hand with social workers and health‑care experts to ensure funds reach patients and departments across CBRH exactly when and where they’re needed. He approaches every request with empathy, integrity, and care.
Beyond the spreadsheets, Thomas has become our unofficial tech troubleshooter, resident teller of dad jokes, and all‑around great human to have on the team.
Thank you, Thomas, for 3 great years. We are grateful for all that you do! 💜

THANK YOU to the friends and family of Katie Andrews 💜
This lovely group of people hosted "Dance Anway," in loving memory of their friend, who was a well-known advocate for the Cape Breton music scene.
Through a shared love of music, dance, and Katie, the initiative raised $1,121.25 for the Cape Breton Cancer Centre and the more than 45,000 patient-visits made there annually.
A special gathering, an impactful initiative, and a tremendous outcome. Thank you for giving where you live, because you care! 💜

THANK YOU, once again, to the Cape Breton Building Trades and Unionized Contractors! 💜
This incredible group has made their final gift of $100,000 toward their half-million-dollar pledge in support of the Cancer Care Here at Home campaign. That means, they have now given $500,000 in support of Cape Breton’s new Cancer Centre.
Beyond this outstanding financial contribution, these folks are also building the new state-of-the-art centre. They are truly leaving their mark on our Island and our community.
Please join us in thanking this group for their generosity and impact, right here, at home.

4 years of No Evidence of Disease for Teal to Heal founder, and our dear friend, Dena 🩵
Read her beautiful words below.
Today is my cancerversary.
Four years ago today I got the call from Halifax that my scans were clear and the pathology from my staging surgery showed No Evidence of Disease.
It’s been four years of figuring out a new normal.
And four years since I first thought, “That was such an awful experience… how can I help someone else going through this?” (It’s the nurse in me)
Myka had just turned two when I was diagnosed. We thought it was a benign cyst, so the call from the gynecologist who did my surgery totally caught me off guard. I still hear Myka’s little voice asking, “Why’s Mommy cwyin?” and “Does she have a boo boo?”
I wish I could hug 2022 me and tell her that the hardest thing she’ll ever go through will turn into something that brings people together - and changes a lot of lives. Teal to Heal was also born that same day, four years ago.
This May will be our 5th event, and somehow it might also be the year we cross $1,000,000 raised. That part still feels unreal.
Because of this community, we’ve been able to:
• Purchase equipment to help make healthcare in Cape Breton more accessible
• Provide monthly care packages to cancer centre patients to make life a little easier
• Create two research grants in Halifax for gynecological cancer research
• Support hundreds of patients financially, so they don’t feel so alone
• Start important conversations and spread awareness
On a personal note, I’m now in my PhD, with my research focused on whether empowering communities with cancer awareness improves long-term outcomes (let’s show them it does).
Thank you to everyone who has supported this, shared it, walked, donated, sponsored, or cheered us on. Thank you to the many local businesses that sponsor us to keep the event free and accessible to all!
I still have some sponsor thank-yous coming from 2025, and in 8 days we go live with Teal to Heal 2026.
So get your teams together, start your walks — we can’t wait to see you for our million-dollar year 💙🩵
I also wish I documented my journey better, but I took very few pictures during my journey to hear the words “no evidence of disease”. I have added the one I sent my parents from my hospital bed after the surgery, still high as a kite lol 🤣

Thanks to our generous donors, Pathways to Employment participants now have a reliable vehicle to get to their job sites 💜
"With this new vehicle, we can focus less on whether we’ll make it to the job site and more on the meaningful work that happens once we arrive," says Justin Valis, General Manager, Pathways to Employment.
"For people living with mental health challenges who are working to rebuild confidence, skills, and independence...reliability matters," he continues. "Knowing that transportation is dependable reduces anxiety, removes barriers, and allows participants to fully engage in meaningful work. Sometimes the most powerful support is simply removing uncertainty so people can focus on growth."
We are sending our most sincere THANK YOU to those who give in support of mental health initiatives in Cape Breton. It is because of your gifts that Pathways can continue to help people in recovery move forward through dignity, purpose, and employment. 💜

THANK YOU Mi'kmaq Run for the Cure! 💜🩷
Their organizing committee recently visited to donate their fundraising efforts from the 2025 event, which was held in loving memory of its founder, Sherise Paul Gould.
They raised an incredible $4202.00 for the Tom McNeil Cancer Patient Care Fund, which supports up to 100 patients at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre each month. This brings their total fundraised over the years to more than $32,000!
Please join us in thanking the organizers, volunteers, and supporters of this wonderful initiative 💜

When you give to a charity, you want to know it will affect the people you care about. The Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation is proud to assure you that 100% of money raised stays in Cape Breton to treat our community.
In 1982, a group of community leaders, led by Cape Bretoner Jack Yazer, developed a vision – that vision was the creation of a health care complex designed to deliver leading edge medical services in Cape Breton – allowing more Cape Bretoners to receive care closer to home.
When construction began in 1990, the Foundation began fundraising. In 1991, they launched a $6M fundraising drive. $3M of that total was committed to hospital construction. $3M was committed to constructing and equipping a Cancer Centre that would offer treatment to those who were receiving care in Halifax.
Today, it’s the second largest acute care facility in Nova Scotia. Since 1991, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation has raised more than $38 million for healthcare in Cape Breton.
The Cape Breton Regional Hospital is the only hospital in Nova Scotia to offer all of the following services under one roof: Operating Rooms, Cardiac Services, Cape Breton Cancer Centre, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatrics Unit, Renal Dialysis Unit, Intensive Care Unit/Coronary Care Unit, Palliative Care Unit, & Mental Health and Addiction Services
As the major referral Centre for Cape Breton, the Regional Hospital treats more than 100,000 patients each year, providing acute and trauma care, emergency services, clinical services, and surgery. Because of our donors, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation has been able to fund many important medical projects.
The Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation also holds multiple funds that are 100% donor funded, including: the Pediatrics TLC Fund, the Mom & Baby TLC Fund and the Cancer Patient Care Fund, Caleb’s Courage, etc.. These funds help patients and their families in times of need. Illness can be a financial burden for many of our patients at the Regional Hospital, and these funds help to alleviate some of the financial stress.
The Cape Breton Regional Hospital employs more than 1,800 health care providers who work with 270 hospital and community-based physicians.
The Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation is proud to say that every single dollar raised here in Cape Breton stays in Cape Breton. The Regional Hospital was built after much community fundraising. Today, after more than 30 years of giving, this spirit of charity continues and donors fund priority healthcare needs for Cape Bretoners.
