By 1:30am, no progress and I was starting to lose it a bit. So Stacey did the first check of the night and turns out I had a cervical lip in the way. Stacey and Tina suggested a couple of awful positions to try and get the lip to move. First a squat, then some position were my feet were hanging off the side of the pool, arms over the other side and just my belly was in the water. All the while I was advised to breathe through the contractions. That was the hardest part of the entire process.
But 10 mins later I was able to actively push! Tina and John by my side, my worship music in the background, the best midwife and RN, plus a doula in training, it was perfect. It was time!! I pushed for 9 mins, at 1:59am his head was born and the cord was around his neck, but they didn’t tell me till later.
Then, at exactly 2AM, my beautiful baby boy came out of me, up out of the water and onto me, full cries!! “He’s here” I cried as I finally got to hold my baby.
We chilled in the pool for a while till John cut the cord 10 mins after he was born. I got a shot to help the placenta come out. I got helped to my bed and shortly after my placenta came out! I got helped into the shower to rinse off and it was finally time to just later in bed and hold my baby. John got some skin to skin while I was getting situated.
