Strategic Direction Update: Adult Services

As part of our Strategic Direction for Adult Services, we're sharing major enhancements to our Regional Respite Program, focusing on a more personal, flexible, and fun experience for the people we support and their families.

This transformation is centered on creating a more individualized and supportive environment:

A More Personal Experience: Our overnight respite home now welcomes four guests at a time for more focused, individualized care.

Support in the Comfort of Your Home: We introduced flexible in-home respite care, making it easier for families to access support when and where they need it most.

💬 Our goal is to offer more opportunities for fun and friendship with expanded community activities like bowling, movies, and theatre outings!

Last December, our team demonstrated their commitment to Niagara community support through our annual Bethesda Giving Challenge. We didn't just meet a goal, we delivered tangible help to those who needed it most. What did this impact look like?

*789 pounds of donated food filled pantry shelves and dinner plates for local families facing food insecurity, thanks to our partnership with Community Care of West Niagara. Our efforts directly supported Niagara residents during the holidays.

*Our Bethesda staff rolled up their sleeves for life-saving plasma donations, potentially saving up to 30 lives through Canadian Blood Services. This contribution to blood donation is an important we we give back.

This is what compassion in action looks like. Thank you to every staff member for being the heart of Bethesda. Read more about this community impact and more in our Annual Report. https://bethesdaservices.com/annual-report-2024-2025

On July 18, 2024, Bethesda was honored to host MPP Wayne Gates at our Sunnylea property in Niagara Falls. This visit allowed us to showcase the warm, supportive environment and the impact of personalized care delivered by our amazing staff to the three individuals who call Sunnylea home.

Our leadership team, including CEO Paul McGowan, shared valuable insights into the daily lives of the people we serve and engaged in critical discussions about the systemic challenges currently affecting the Developmental Services sector.

CEO Paul McGowan shared: "We appreciate MPP Gates and his team’s ongoing commitment to supporting our community at the provincial level."

We had an exceptional day of learning and connection at our DSW Conference last week.

Thank you to our Developmental Support Workers (DSW) for bringing high energy and dedication to enhancing their skills and support. From the Recreation Expo with Niagara College students to deep-dive sessions, the impact is clear:

"Today made me think deeply about what I do and how I can do things better.”

Hearing directly from the people we support was truly powerful:

“This is not a job, this is my life.”

Our commitment is to a supportive, reflective, and highly skilled workforce, because we know exceptional care starts with highly trained and supported staff.

Thank you to everyone who participated!

What a day for the Bethesda team at the 2025 Conference!

First, our Clinical Supervisor, Monica Hughes, presented her impactful findings on Caring with Confidence: Using a Behaviour Skills Group Training Model to Train Frontline Therapeutic Respite Workers. This project enhanced therapeutic respite services in Urgent Response Services (URS) across Southwestern Ontario, with Associate Clinical Supervisor Bethany Muir serving as session Chair!

The Project’s Impact:

202 frontline respite staff and supporting managers participated in the training.
The training reached 21 agencies across 8 cities.
Participants showed a significant increase in self-reported confidence and knowledge!

Monica also received the highly-sought Clinical Excellence Award earlier this morning!

Thank you, Monica, for showing Ontario the incredible skill, compassion, and innovation that defines our Bethesda team. We're so proud
