Getting things out of your mind and writing them down on paper is one of the easiest and most effective ways to calm a busy mind at the end of they. Practices like this allow you to check in with yourself and create spaces for unloading that allows your body to relax and aids in better sleep.
Here are 5 Journal Prompts to Calm a Busy Mind
1. “What is one thing I can let go of today?”
Write down what’s taking up unnecessary space in your mind—worries, tasks, expectations—and name one thing you can release, even just for today.
2. “What does my body feel like right now?”
Describe any tension, tightness, restlessness, or comfort you notice.
Bringing awareness to the body helps slow mental noise.
3. “If my mind had a volume dial, what would I turn down? What would I turn up?”
Think: less pressure, more peace. Less self-criticism, more self-kindness.
4. “What is one truth I know that brings me comfort?”
Examples: I am safe.
This moment will pass.
I don’t have to figure everything out today.
5. “What are three small things that grounded me today?”
Moments like a warm drink, a deep breath, a kind word, or a quiet walk.
Noticing grounding moments helps the brain shift out of stress mode.
