Kneehill Funeral Services

Kneehill Funeral Services We are experienced, caring and attentive professionals who personally provide for every aspect of your loved one's funeral service, cremation and burial needs.

My name is Ed Stephan, and along with my wife Terry we are the owner/operators of Kneehill and West View Funeral Services. We are experienced, caring and attentive professionals who personally provide for every aspect of your loved one’s funeral service, cremation and burial needs. I have over 30 year’s experience as a funeral director/embalmer in Alberta. I have worked since 1989 in the Three Hills, Trochu and Olds areas. I am the only full time employee and along with my wife and a dedicated assortment of part-time employees have been in operation as Kneehill Funeral Services since 2008 and West View Funeral Services since 2013. We have a funeral home in Three Hills, Olds and a funeral home and crematorium in Trochu. I honestly love this work. I do not have an answering service; I hate them, especially in our industry. I believe that we have and do provide above quality service at extremely reasonable prices. We believe our service and merchandise prices are fair and have published the prices of eight basic packages on our website. We actively promote the participation of families in memorializing their loved ones: it may be as simple as acting as a greeter at the register, ushering the congregation, to making their own urns, cremation containers or caskets. We also actively work with Alberta Government Agencies such as AISH and are Funeral Service Providers for the Red Deer Memorial Society.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Fred Holowath of Rumsey, Alberta, who left us peacefully on November 2, 2025 at the age of 87. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 64 years, Pat Holowath.

Fred was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who was known for his quiet strength and witty sense of humor. Born in Stettler, Alberta on January 17, 1938, he spent his life rooted in the community of Rumsey, where he farmed the land he loved, enjoyed the good company of many friends, was a constant presence at the curling rink or baseball diamond, all the while pampering his beloved horses. He retired to Trochu in 2009, enjoying time at the Trochu Golf course.

Fred will be remembered by Pat Holowath with whom he shared 64 years of married life, his 4 children and their partners — Bradley (Jacci), Paula (Randy) Brand, Bart (Terri), and Kent (Jill); his ten grandchildren - Meghan, Holly (Dayton), and Justin and Mary Allyson Holowath, Carter Brand, Remington (Jeanette and Colt Holowath, Garret (Jenny), Brett and Amanda Holowath;

He was predeceased by his parents - Harry Holowath and Pauline Melnychyn, his in-laws - Frank and Cecelia Hudecek; his sisters - Mary Soloski and Stella Cassidy; his uncle and aunt - Joseph and Mary Fetchyshyn; and his brothers-in-law Jim Hudecek, Gerry Hruska, Rudy Soloski, and Al Cassidy.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anne of the Prairies Catholic Church in Trochu on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at the Rumsey Cemetery and lunch and fellowship at the Rumsey Community Hall.

A special thanks to Dr. Sharma of Red Deer and Dr. Omorefe of Airdrie for the compassionate care they provided for Marilyn during her recent one-year illness. Leslie James Howlett
November 2, 1930 - September 14, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and great grandfather Leslie James Howlett on September 14, 2025 surrounded by his family.

Les, the eighth of twelve children of William and Florence Howlett grew up in Mossbank, Saskatchewan. When he was 15, he moved to Blackfalds, Alberta with the Buster Murphy family to help set up their new farm. He had numerous trucking positions before starting buying grain with the Pioneer Grain Company in 1957 in Lacombe, Alberta. At this time, he met his bride, Ethel Gibbons through her older brother. They were married November 14, 1959. To this union five daughters were born. Les began his career with the Alberta Wheat Pool in 1960 which took his family to Chancellor, Wetaskiwin, Rimbey, Bentley, Bittern Lake, Beynon, Huxley and Carbon. To ensure his family was always supported he often worked evenings and weekends helping farmers and neighbors. In 1990, they retired to Stettler to be near family. He worked at the Stettler Auction Mart and drove for the Stettler Handibus. After the passing of his dearly beloved wife of sixty years, Ethel in 2019 he moved in with his daughter Kathy (Mike) where he received much love and care.

Service to the community was valued by him. He was a member of the Huxley Curling Club, Huxley Fish and Game, Trochu Elks, Carbon Lions, Carbon Volunteer Fire Department, Carbon Chamber of Commerce, Stettler Legion and the Stettler P&H Elevator Preservation Society.

He enjoyed gardening, camping and fishing. Of the utmost importance was spending time with his family and friends. He was the biggest cheerleader for his family at many sporting events. Through the years, trips were made throughout Alberta, and to Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Arizona, California, Alaska and Mexico.

Les leaves to mourn his five daughters: Wanda (Keith) Best of Nanaimo, Kathy (Mike) Hofer of Rockyford, Valerie (Bruce) Mappin of Bellevue, Michelle (Peter) Larsen of Standard, and Marilyn (Michael) Weatherald of Rimbey; eleven grandchildren: Brandi (Dan) Belliveau, Shane (Carley) Best, Stephanie (Jeff) Yule, Meghan (Rolly) Thomson, Angeline (Lindsey) Shadlock, Charlee Mappin, Bobbie (Devon) Robinson, Ashley (Wes) Kirkpatrick, Melissa (Garrett) Smith-McCormack, Colby (Annie) Weatherald, and Connor (Brooke) Weatherald; and fourteen great grandchildren, Dylan Belliveau, Payton, Taylor & Sawyer Yule, Raeleigh & Nash Nicols, Westin & Ruger Shadlock, Jack McCormack, Easton & Levi Kirkpatrick, Baker & Crosby Weatherald and Kinsley Weatherald.

Les was a gift to his family, well loved and had a wonderful life.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

A private family service will be held at his request.
