A Medically Developed Weight Loss Method With a Beginning, a Middle and An End.

This is the Ideal Protein Method

The Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method is a medically designed protocol containing 2 key components – weight loss and a healthier lifestyle education to assist you in maintaining your results after dieting. Our protocol has evolved for over 20 years, but was originally developed over 2 decades ago by Dr. Tran Tien Chanh who focused his career and research on nutrition with a particular emphasis on the treatment of obesity and obesity related issues.

Understanding the Cause of Weight Gain will Help You Conquer it
According to Dr. Tran Tien, "The cause of many weight issues in a modern society is insulin dysfunction. A diet grossly disproportionate in its share of saturated fats and sugars, such as in breads, cereals, muffins, cakes, pastries, pasta, pizza, rice, corn - very much like the North American diet - causes the pancreas to produce an overabundance of insulin, which stays in the system and puts the blood sugar level in a negative balance."
An overproduction of insulin may lead to hypoglycemia or low glycemia, which in turn may induce constant sugar cravings and weight gain. One of Insulin’s primary functions is to regulate blood sugar levels, however, it is also the hormone that facilitates the transport of fat (triglycerides) into the fat cells. Even worse, it "locks" the fat into the fat cell, preventing it from being used as a source of energy. Now, because the blood sugar has dropped (and we can’t access the fat as a fuel source) it creates "sugar cravings' and the vicious cycle begins again. In other words, an over abundance of insulin can cause weight gain.

Core Principles of Ideal Protein

Learning to live off of the body's own fat reserves. The body employs energy from three reserves: glycogen (carbohydrate), protein and fats. First the body depletetes its simple and complex carbohydrate reserves and then turns simultaneously to its protein and fat reserves for energy. A person not in need of weight loss typically has approximately 1-2% of their body's reserves from carbs, approximately 19% from their muscle mass and 79% of their body reserves from fat.
Simple and complex carbohydrates can prevent weight loss. The body stores approximately three days worth of carbohydrates, therefore, our protocol restricts sugars (simple and complex) until 100% of your weight loss goal is achieved…why? Because, as long as sugar is being consumed, your body may not be burning fat. Remember, the first source of energy is derived from glycogen (carbohydrate) reserves. Therefore, the core principle of the Ideal Protein Protocol is to deplete the glycogen (carbohydrate) reserves completely, in order to compel the body into consuming its fat reserve to burn calories.
How do we encourage the body to burn its fat reserves, but support its muscle mass reserves if both are depleted simultaneously? First, Ideal Protein foods are made with high quality protein. The quality of protein used in Ideal Protein diet products has an impact on effective protein absorption…the lower the quality, the lower the absorption. If protein absorption is low, you may not be able to protect your muscle mass and thus you will burn muscle along with fat. If you lose muscle while dieting, you may impair your ability to burn calories post-diet, as your body uses muscle mass to burn calories.
Secondly, our dieters use our nutrient-rich supplements such as Natura Multi-Vita, Natura Calcium & Magnesium and Natura Potassium, key ingredients in muscle building and electrolytes. These supplements replace those normally found in foods restricted on the Ideal Protein protocol.

March 2015 is Nutrition Month in Canada.

Dietitians of Canada’s Eating 9 to 5 campaign encourages Canadians to eat better at work and make other positive changes in their day-to-day lives at work.

The organization provides Canadians information and guidance to improve their eating habits and teach them how to enjoy healthy foods.

On the Dietitians of Canada website, you download the Dietitians: Engage in Eating Well at Work! information sheet that shares great tips on how to handle challenges you may be facing during working hours.

Highlights from Statistics Canada

Although a minimum of five daily servings of vegetables and fruit is recommended, seven out of 10 children aged 4 to 8 and half of adults do not meet this minimum.
56.2% of Canadians (age 12+) consume fewer than five servings of vegetables and fruit per day.
More than a third (37%) of children aged 4 to 9 do not have the recommended two daily servings of milk products. By age 30, more than two-thirds of Canadians do not attain the minimum daily levels.
Over a quarter of Canadians aged 31 to 50 get more than 35% of their total calories from fat, the threshold beyond which health risks increase, according to the Institute of Medicine, an independent, non-governmental organization in the US, which provides science-based advice on health issues.
Snacks, that is food and drink consumed between meals, account for more calories than breakfast, and about the same number of calories as lunch.
The food consumption patterns of children and adolescents are not as closely associated with household income as are those of adults.
Of all the money spent on food in Canada, 40% is spent in foodservice outlets.

Ideal Protein’s Pharmacy/Physician Collaborations Is a Step Ahead for Canada’s New Weight Management Guidelines in Canada

Weight loss method Ideal Protein brings a solution that’s in line with new guidelines published by The Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care to help prevent and manage obesity in adults. The guidelines recommend that practitioners offer structured programs to change behavior to help with weight loss for patients who are obese or overweight, especially to those at high risk of diabetes, and that medication should NOT routinely be offered to help people lose weight. Ideal Protein meets all these criteria.

The Guidelines, aimed at physicians and healthcare providers, were published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal. The Task Force cited that a mix of counseling, education and environmental modifications should be included in the weight loss approach that focuses on making changes to diet, exercise and lifestyle.

Ideal Protein is a scientifically based weight loss method with personalized coaching. The company, based in Gatineau, Quebec, already has over 200 pharmacies throughout Canada that offer its weight loss method. These pharmacists collaborate with physicians in the community to help their patients lose weight and improve their health.

Pharmacist Andrew Buffett, Guardian Crowell’s Pharmacy + 4 and Past Chairman, the Pharmacy Association of Nova Scotia, said this is exciting news for Canadians and Canadian healthcare practitioners.

“These new guidelines from the industry will encourage more widespread use of structured, behavior-changing options like Ideal Protein, which is a proven, low-risk, and effective solution for weight loss. We have had great success in working with physicians in the community who refer us patients, as well as with our pharmacy customers, to reach their weight and health goals safely.”

“As a cardiologist, I’m committed to helping my patients achieve a healthy weight to avoid heart disease and its chronic long-term effects,” stated Douglas Rothrock, M.D., a practicing cardiologist and Medical Director for Ideal Protein. “The Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method has proven to be a life-changing catalyst, for me personally and for my patients. It is a wonderful tool I can recommend to my patients that will bring major benefits to their cardiovascular health, overall well-being and lifespan.”

Findings of an analysis of patients on the Ideal Protein method were recently presented at the 9th Annual Obesity Summit at the Cleveland Clinic, and at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the National Obesity Society. The results show safe, rapid weight loss, and can help the reduction of risk factors for cardiovascular disease. The data showed that patients lost an average of almost two pounds a week, with their lab results showing lower cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides and glucose readings.

In Canada, the number of obese adults has almost doubled since 1978, from 14% to 26%. More than two/thirds of Canadian men and more than half of Canadian women are overweight or obese according to Science Daily.
