Creative Therapy Associates CTA provides high quality services in the area of behavioural, speech and occupational therapy.

Creative Therapy Associates has had the honor of providing Speech-Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy to Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario for over 20 years. Our center's professional compliment consists of 4 Occupational Therapists, and 7 Speech Language Pathologists, and 9 Behavioral Therapists. Our caring and experienced therapists each have specific areas of interest and are dedicated to working with children, adults, and families to maximize their skills, build self esteem, and help clients live a quality life. Our centres offers a warm and friendly atmosphere to our clients, and our therapy rooms are designed specifically to welcome our pediatric and adult clients in order to best suit their needs. We strongly believe in client/family centered care, and therefore family involvement is an integral part of the therapy process at all levels. Along with private services to clients within our center, we provide contractual services to various organizations in our city and northern communities, ranging from consultation, in-service training, workshops, direct and indirect delivery models.

Our little explorers had so much fun digging, building, creating, and learning through sensory play and hands-on activities. The smiles, the teamwork, and the excitement made the whole day unforgettable!

🦖 Sensory Play = Learning Through Play 🧠✨🦕

At Creative Therapy Associates, our sensory activities like our Dino Discovery bins are so much more than “just play.” Sensory play helps children explore, experiment, and learn in a hands-on, engaging way.

When kids dig, scoop, pour, and search for dinosaurs, they are building:

💙 Fine motor skills – strengthening little hands for writing, cutting, and daily tasks
💚 Language development – describing textures, naming objects, and asking questions
💙 Problem-solving skills – figuring out how to uncover fossils or move materials
💚 Regulation & focus – sensory input helps many children calm, stay grounded, and stay engaged
💙 Imagination & creativity – storytelling, pretend play, and exploring new ideas

Friendship Builders – Saturday Afternoons

Our Friendship Builders group offers a safe, supportive, neuro-affirming space where children can connect, play, and build real friendship skills. Each session focuses on learning how to:
💙 Make and maintain friendships
💚 Take turns and share
💙 Work together during group activities
💚 Practice conversation skills
💙 Build confidence in social situations

Through meaningful play and guidance, children learn skills that help friendships grow in a warm, welcoming environment.

Respite Services at Creative Therapy Associates

Our respite program offers a safe, structured, and engaging environment for children and youth to build social skills, independence, and confidence while families enjoy a well-deserved break.

Each session includes a variety of fun and purposeful activities designed to promote positive interactions, creativity, and self-regulation. Children enjoy crafts, games, sensory exploration, and themed group experiences within a supportive and inclusive setting. Our sensory gym features equipment such as crash mats, swings, and movement activities that support regulation and provide opportunities for active play.

Sessions are available daily in the morning, afternoon, and after school, with weekend options also offered to accommodate family schedules. PA Day respite available.

Respite services are open to all children, and we proudly provide a neuro-affirming environment that celebrates each child’s unique strengths and interests.

Sometimes someone truly special comes along, a person whose commitment, heart, and professionalism make an impact that reaches far beyond their role.

We are very proud to announce Sarah Prenger as our new Speech-Language Pathologist, Clinical Coordinator at Creative Therapy Associates.

Sarah’s dedication to her clients, her thoughtful leadership, and her ability to bring out the best in those around her have been remarkable. She goes above and beyond to ensure each client receives the highest quality of care, and her compassion and expertise have made a lasting difference for so many families.

This new role reflects her continued growth and the respect she has earned from her colleagues, clients, and the broader community. Congratulations, Sarah, on this well-deserved achievement.

🦕 🦖 Dinosaur Discovery is here 🦖 🦕

Get ready to stomp, dig, and roar your way through the world of dinosaurs! Children and youth will travel back in time to explore prehistoric life through hands-on, sensory-rich activities designed to build curiosity, creativity, and social skills.

Participants will take part in fossil digging, egg hunts, dino tracking, and volcano making, learning through exploration, teamwork, and problem-solving. Groups are divided by age.

Please note: This is a drop-off event — parent participation is not required during the session. Our trained team will provide full supervision and support throughout the program.

The Power of Play in Learning 💙💚

Play is one of the most important parts of early learning. Through play, children explore, experiment, and connect with the world around them. It supports every area of development, from communication and motor skills to problem-solving and emotional growth.

When children play, they:

• Strengthen language and communication as they label, describe, and share their ideas with others.

• Develop joint attention, the ability to share focus on an activity or object with another person, which is essential for learning and social connection.

• Build social-emotional understanding as they take turns, express feelings, and practice cooperation.

• Improve fine and gross motor skills through movement, coordination, and hands-on exploration.

• Grow attention, planning, and flexibility, all of which support school readiness and independence.
