About 16 months ago, Ashley Aitken discovered a lump that would change her life. As a Nurse Practitioner with no family history of breast cancer, the diagnosis came as a shock.

For Ashley, one of the hardest moments was talking to her children. "Telling my two older kids I had breast cancer was the hardest thing I've ever had to do."

On April 16th Ashley will take the stage at Bullseye Chase the Case presented by Doane Grant Thornton to share the powerful story about her journey and how care at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre helped her through one of the toughest chapters of her life. โค๏ธ

Join us for an unforgettable dinner & gameshow event supporting breast cancer care. Save your seat at healthsciencesfoundation.ca/case.

Going to the Emergency Department can be a difficult experience for pregnant people in pain and distress, worried about their baby.

Thanks to donors to our 2025 Christmas Wish List and Giving Tuesday fundraisers, the ED now has a new specialized birthing bed to help make pelvic exams more comfortable, while preserving privacy and dignity. โค๏ธ

Patients come to the ED with gynaecological concerns every single day. Problems during pregnancy are the most common, but non-pregnancy concerns can be examined using this new bed, too.

Best of all, the new bed is better in several different waysโ€ฆ read more: bit.ly/hsf31026

It's International Women's Day, and we can't think of a better day to celebrate Women in Action Thunder Bay.

Over the past decade, this incredible group of women grew to over 100 members who came together to fund important initiatives in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre's Emergency Department, including:

๐ŸŸฃ Cameras
๐ŸŸฃ Portable Telemetry Packs
๐ŸŸฃ Stretchers
๐ŸŸฃ Charging Station
๐ŸŸฃ Portable cardiac and vital signs monitor
๐ŸŸฃ ED Enhancement Project โ€“ initial phase planning and renovations

In total, just over $159,000 in WIA donations were directed to these initiatives.

And last Thursday, and their Wrap-Up event, members of Women in Action presented the Hospital with $375,420 to support the Emergency Department Enhancement Project!

From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank every single WIA member for their generosity and continued support. They've built something that will help everyone in the community, and something they can truly be proud of. ๐Ÿฉท

For too long, a cardiac diagnosis has meant a long journey away from home and the support of loved ones. ๐Ÿซ€

The Cardiovascular Surgery (CVS) Program at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre is moving forward โ€“ bringing cardiac surgery to Northwestern Ontario for the first time. New operating rooms, a dedicated cardiovascular surgery unit, and a coronary care unit are all part of a vision rooted in one simple belief: that where you live should never determine the quality of care you receive.

In partnership with UHN's Peter Munk Cardiac Centre and guided by a commitment to equity and collaboration, the Hospital's team is building the future of cardiac care right here, close to home.
