As a naturopathic doctor, I’m no longer comfortable accepting this as the standard of care.

Too many of my patients come to me feeling like they’re overreacting…

As a naturopathic doctor, I work with many women in their 30s to 50s — and I see the same pattern over and over again.

💛 These are a few things I do almost every day to support my nervous system and manage stress:

✔️ Coffee with (or after) a high-protein breakfast
Having coffee on an empty stomach can amplify your morning cortisol response. Pairing it with protein helps keep my blood sugar steady and supports a more balanced energy curve through the morning.

✔️ Intentional movement
This might be yoga, a walk or jog, or lifting weights. More vigorous exercise helps build stress resilience, while gentler movement supports my body in shifting into a calmer, parasympathetic state. Both have their place.

✔️ No email in the evening
After years in practice, I’ve learned how activating the inbox can be. Setting this boundary (even when it’s hard!) helps my mind unwind and makes a big difference in how I feel.

If your health has slipped to the back burner, take a breath. Then ask yourself these 3 simple questions:

1️⃣ Is this just a season?
We all go through phases where, despite our best intentions, life takes over. Sometimes that means your needs get sidelined for a short while. If that’s the case, try not to add guilt on top of everything else. Acknowledge the season you’re in — and choose a gentle date to revisit your health priorities.

2️⃣ What’s already going well?
We’re often so hard on ourselves that we overlook the things we are doing right. Maybe you’re staying hydrated, going for short walks, or cooking at home more. Could you build slightly on one of those? Small improvements truly add up. (If you haven’t read Atomic Habits, it’s a great reminder of this.)

3️⃣ Are you feeling overwhelmed about what to do next?
