Box breathing is a structured breathing technique used to reduce stress and activate the parasympathetic nervous system. It involves four equal parts:

Inhale for 4 seconds
Hold for 4 seconds
Exhale for 4 seconds
Hold for 4 seconds
Repeat.

This technique can support emotional regulation, increase focus, and bring the body out of a fight-or-flight response.

In narrative therapy, grounding tools like box breathing can create space to reflect, respond, and re-author your experience with clarity.
