It’s National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week, a time to recognize the life-saving impact of organ and tissue donation, and the teams who make it possible.

Ever wonder how a donor and recipient get paired together? Transplant matchmaking doesn’t happen on an app. It happens in the lab.

Dr. Jeff Kiernan takes us behind the scenes at UHN’s Transplant Immunology Lab, where science, precision, and care come together to make life-saving connections and transplants possible.

It’s National Volunteer Week!

Volunteers have long been a cornerstone of our organization, contributing in meaningful ways across our sites. Coming from a wide range of backgrounds, they support patient and caregiver well–being, assist visitors, and provide support to clinical and non-clinical colleagues.

Today, more than 600 volunteers help to enhance the patient experience and make a difference every day.

Happy Administrative Professionals Day! 🎉

As the first point of contact for many patients and families, administrative professionals set the standard of excellence across UHN. Wyeth, who recently joined TeamUHN as an admin in the Deep Brain Stimulation Clinic, supports critical meetings, complex calendar management across time zones, and document review — work that helps enable care to the highest standard.

“This work is a true team effort, and the level of care and collaboration makes it possible to do it well," says Wyeth.

Thank you to Wyeth, and to all administrative professionals for the impact you make.

Earth Day is an opportunity for TeamUHN to celebrate our incredible culture of sustainability as we strive for a Healthier World.

We are thankful for the dedication of the 700+ staff who volunteer for UHN’s Green Team, the many departments and teams that take the environment to heart as part of their daily work, and the guidance of the Energy & Sustainability team (formerly Energy & Environment). These sustainability champions are at the forefront of delivering patient and planet-centered care, research, and education at UHN.

It's Medical Laboratory Week, and we’re recognizing the professionals who work behind the scenes to support patient care.

Meet Danielle! Dani is a Medical Lab Technician in the Core Lab at UHN's Toronto General Hospital, where she supports specimen collection, processing, and management.

"There's also a lot of different benches that you can work at in the lab, and being able to do a different task each week excites me," says Dani.

A big thank you to all UHN lab professionals for the essential role you play every day.

Cancer during adolescence and young adulthood presents unique challenges.

During Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Awareness Week (April 6-10) we recognize the unique needs and challenges faced by young individuals who are diagnosed with cancer.

At UHN’s Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, the AYA Oncology Program supports patients ages 15 to 39 through care that includes music therapy, which has a profound impact on patients during their hospital stay.

Watch Tiffany, an AYA patient at UHN’s Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, provide a special musical performance in collaboration with Music in the Atrium.

Happy Oncology Nursing Day!

Today, we’re celebrating the incredible oncology nurses at UHN like Kezia, who works in the Thoracic/Sarcoma Ambulatory Clinics at UHN’s Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. She supports patients through chemotherapy assessments and ongoing monitoring throughout treatment.

“I like my role because I get to know my patients for several years sometimes. The ability to follow my patients throughout their journey is so rewarding.”

Thank you Kezia, and all oncology nurses at UHN, for the vital impact you have on countless individuals undergoing life-saving cancer treatments.

Celebrated on the first Tuesday of April, National Caregiver Day is an opportunity to recognize and honour the invaluable contributions of caregivers who provide unpaid support to their relatives, partners, friends or neighbours with a short or long-term health condition, physical or mental disability, or needs related to aging.

Caregivers often do not see themselves as such and believe they are just doing what needs to be done for the people in their lives.

TeamUHN sees caregivers at the bedside, attending clinic appointments, and supporting patients at every step of their health care journey. Caregivers are important members of a patient's care team whose presence improves quality of care, patient outcomes, patient safety, and patient experience.

Today, on Green Shirt Day, we wear green to bring awareness for organ and tissue donation. Currently, about 1,400 people in Ontario are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.

Follow along with Ajmera Transplant Centre at UHN to meet some of the dedicated staff operating Canada’s largest and most prolific transplant program, and the significant impact that registering to donate can have.

Meet our Ward Clerks on 6A and 7AB

Ward clerks are often the first people to be seen on the Transplant Units. They have a critical role in facilitating the smooth running of the inpatient units, including chart management, admission, discharge and transfer, answer phones, call bells and in person questions. This trusted team quietly keep things moving and flowing on the unit.
