There are other injection options for arthritis management beyond cortisone/steroid injections. Viscosupplementation and PRP (platelet-rich plasma) can support joint healing, reduce pain, and improve mobility.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Injections:
Purpose: Uses your body’s own platelets to promote healing in damaged joint tissue.
Effect: Can improve pain, function, and possibly support tissue repair over time.
Best For: Mild to moderate osteoarthritis or soft tissue injuries.
Note: Effects may take a few weeks to develop.

Viscosupplementation (Hyaluronic Acid) Injections
Purpose: Adds lubrication to the joint to improve movement and reduce friction.
Effect: Can relieve pain and stiffness, especially in knees.
Best For: Osteoarthritis in weight-bearing joints.

Managing arthritis isn’t one-size-fits-all. Injection therapy, like cortisone or steroid shots, can be an effective option to reduce inflammation and relieve pain in affected joints. Always discuss what’s right for you with your healthcare provider.

Cortisone / Steroid:
Purpose: Reduce inflammation and swelling in the joint.
Effect: Provides relatively fast pain relief.
Best For: Flare-ups or joints with active inflammation.
Note: Relief can last weeks to months; repeated use may be limited.

Yes, you can (and should) exercise with arthritis — just listen to your body. When your joints are inflamed, that’s your cue to slow down, focus on gentle movement, and avoid pushing into pain. When you’re in remission, that’s the time to build strength, mobility, and endurance. If pain lingers into the evening or the next day, dial it back. Remember: form, pacing, and recovery matter just as much as the workout itself.
