Doula Jenn B

Doula Jenn B I'm a Christian birth & postpartum doula situated in the western suburbs of Toronto, Canada, keen to support birthing & new moms Hi! I’m Jenn.

I'm a birth & postpartum doula. I'm passionate about pregnancy, childbirth and child-rearing. My mission is to empower expectant moms to have the labour and childbirth experience they want, and to help families navigate the first precious months of bub's life outside the womb. I will do what I can to help mom own the process of bringing her child into this world, and to have as positive an experience as possible. I have experience with Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART), home, hospital, water, land and caesarean birth, and lots of practice supporting moms & bubs through the trials and joys of early infancy. I'm also available to be a homebirth doula for older siblings, to be their dedicated buddy throughout the labour & birth. I am a wife and a mother, a daughter, sister, aunt and niece, teacher, artist and friend. Besides all things birth, I love books, thrift shopping, spirituality, puzzles, Zentangle and healthy living. Born & raised in Canada, college-educated & married in the US, I lived in Sydney, Australia for over 12 years and am now located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I'm eager to support you in your childbearing process!

⏱️ What's up with Inductions? 🤔

It seems to me that there is an obsession with getting babies out of their mamas bellies before something terrible happens. Fair enough, don't get me wrong, I don't want anything terrible to happen, either!! ---But what happened to trusting the process? What happened to letting women's bodies and their babies determine when labour should start?

Major points (if you want it word for word, watch the video! 😉):
🔸concern about increased risk of stillbirth
🔸*relative* risk vs *absolute* risk
🔸 inductions & planned caesareans at 39 weeks
🔸by and large: WAY TOO MANY INDUCTIONS & CAESAREANS
🔸 risks of waiting vs risks associated with induction & caesarean birth [𝘌𝘝𝘌𝘙𝘠𝘛𝘏𝘐𝘕𝘎 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘬; 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘬 𝘸𝘦'𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘰𝘯]
🔸labour is *SO* tremendously beneficial for both baby AND mom, even when ends up in caesarean
🔸induced labour processed WAY differently by a woman's body than going into labour spontaneously
🔸due dates: how calculated, how accurate (*or inaccurate!) they can be

Short story long: except in occasional, extenuating circumstances, SPONTANEOUS LABOUR IS THE WAY TO GO, full stop.
.If you think so, too, and want some support to achieve these ideals, reach out & grab yourself a doula today! 😁

Ahhh, the passing of an iconic man. God bless him for all he's done for women, babies, families & birth! Thank you, dear sir. 💜

We are saddened to hear news of the passing of Michel Odent, whose vision and writing reshaped the way we understand human birth.

Michel Odent reminded us that birth is not a medical procedure to be controlled, but a primal rythm to be respected. He advocated for home-like maternity units, warm water births, protecting the birthing woman's privacy and honouring her instincts, undisturbed contact between mother and newborn; he was among the first to discuss the importance of the microbiome, and question many of the practices that had (and have) become normalised in overmedicalised maternity systems globally.

Michel Odent's legacy lives on in every dimmed, quiet birthing room, and in every midwife his words and work inspired to join our profession.

Thank you, Michel, for your passion, vision and committment to women and newborns.

People are often scared of the prospect of homebirth..... but are hospital births really as safe as we think they are? Doulas can support you at either ....but for an event that will have a deeeeep and lasting impact on both mama & bubba, it's worth some serious consideration. 💗

🏡 Home Birth: Safer Than You Might Think

For decades, the focus has been on questioning the safety of home birth.

But maybe it’s time we start asking a different question:
Is a hospital birth always the safest option?

Research continues to show that unnecessary interventions are more common in hospitals, while planned home births with the continuous care of a known midwife are often linked to better outcomes for both mother and baby.

An Australian study of 1.25 million births found that women who planned a home birth were almost six times more likely to have a normal vaginal birth.

A 15-year Victorian study of more than 850,000 births showed lower rates of birth trauma and fewer interventions among women who gave birth at home.

National data also shows that home births had the highest rates of physiological vaginal birth and the lowest rates of caesarean, epidural, episiotomy and postpartum haemorrhage.

These aren’t just numbers — they represent real women, real families, and real choices.

At The Thompson Method, we believe the place of birth matters, but the people supporting you matter even more.

Continuity of care with a midwife who knows you, respects you and walks with you every step of the way is one of the most powerful ways to reduce risk and protect your birth and breastfeeding experience.

Of course, there are times when medical support is necessary. That’s why respectful, collaborative care between midwives and doctors is essential — no matter where you choose to birth.

So if hospital birth is assumed to be the safest option…
Why are so many women still experiencing avoidable trauma and unnecessary intervention?

Let’s open the conversation.
Did you choose a home birth or a hospital birth?
How did that decision shape your experience?

With education and support, more women can make informed choices and experience the kind of birth they deserve.
