Kingston Kids Toronto East

Kingston Kids Toronto East Kingston Kids provides social-emotional skill building opportunities in an inclusive and supportive environment for all children.

Themes include: Responsibility, Perseverance, Self-Control, Volume Control/Learning Body Ready, Collaboration/Cooperation, Self-Help/Independance, Emotions/Feelings, etc

We run our classes with no more than 6 children and three therapists. Michelle, Beth and myself have over 20 years experience in the field of autism and other exceptionalities

We have a WhatsApp group for each individual class that only the parents of those children access. We take pictures of the sessions so that parents can see what their children have been doing

Please note that schools often support and encourage children attending our classes. We find that many children who come to our classes welcome the break from school, the change of scenery, and a safe place to learn skills and push through challenges. If you currently have OAP funding you may use these funds for our social skills classes. Prerequisite skills needed for our social skills classes: intermediate social communication skills so that we can support further conversational and requesting skills, attending skills in order to join group time to discuss social/emotional themes. If you require transportation from your child’s school to us mid-day please let us know. We can provide transportation at $12/one-way if their school is within our pick up boundaries.

Movement is critically important for kids bodies. Heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, etc. Have them help with yard work, house work, etc The forest is a fantastic natural place to be able to do all these movements, as well as, for their mental health. Make time for natural movement, let children take risks, let them explore their body’s abilities. In our practice we have noticed core strength is under developed which leads to challenges in sitting, regulating, participating in dance and movement games, focus etc. Don’t underestimate the importance of movement.

Putting your child into team sports to help them learn how to manage with others isn’t always the best way to build skill. Team sports require so many multitasking skills, and often feel too big for our kiddos. And it’s okay if they can’t, or won’t. They will if, and when, they are ready. Don’t mistake your hopes and dreams as theirs.
