Melasma and sun spots are two common skin concerns we see — and two of the most commonly confused. Understanding the difference matters, because treating them the same way can actually make things worse.
One of the main triggers for melasma is hormones. Heat, and UV exposure often make it worse. It shows up as irregular, blotchy patches, sometimes resembling a shadow, typically on the forehead, cheeks, nose, and upper lip. It tends to sit deeper in the skin, which is why it requires more targeted management.
Sun spots are the result of cumulative UV damage. They tend to be smaller, more defined, and sit closer to the surface.
Both require diligent sun protection. But the right treatment begins with the right diagnosis.
If you're unsure what you're dealing with or what the best treatment pathway is for your unique skin, that's exactly where we come in.
