Burnout: A Psycho-Spiritual Approach

I wrote this article in 2018 for NDNR magazine as I was emerging from my own experience of severe burnout. During this time, I found the majority of information about burnout seemed to have a subtle yet pervasive sentiment of disempowerment, albeit well meaning. I share my insights to provide an empowering perspective of the burnout experience. Where burnout is not a shameful collapse or failure, but rather a powerful and purposeful journey of the soul's evolution.

Note: Since being published, WHO's definition of burnout has been changed from "a state of vital exhaustion," to "an occupational phenomenon." Perhaps this was intended to make organizations more accountable. Personally, I believe burnout happens beyond the workplace, for it is one of the many ways the soul evolves.
