Our upcoming Lunch & Learn event is just around the corner!

This three-hour workshop will take you on a reflective journey to explore how ableism affects parents and prospective parents with disabilities. Through this workshop, you will learn how to support the holistic needs of this population as they navigate becoming parents or are already parents. Gabriella will share her lived experience while utilizing case studies, providing education, and opportunities for reflection so that you can have the tools to provide disability-affirmative care during the perinatal period.

I feel like there is this expectation, and pressure, on moms that just because we are the mother of a baby that we should automatically know what every cry means and how to fix it. Well, I know for me that’s not the case. There are just sooo many possibilities. For example, in the past 24 hours my baby has cried because:⁣
😑She is hungry. She is too full. She needs to burp. She needs to pass gas. She needed to p**p. ⁣
🤔She was bored. She had the sun in her face. She was cold. She was hot. She wanted to be swaddled. She didn’t want to be swaddled. ⁣
🥴 She wanted to be held. Then she wanted to be held facing out. Then she wanted me to stand when holding her. Then for me to walk when holding her. ⁣

And every time she communicated to me something wasn’t right in the same way: crying. I am her mother, but I am no baby mind reader 🤷🏼‍♀️ Books, courses, and experience can help...but at the end of the day it’s me and her figuring it out one cry at a time. It’s me trying to apply the knowledge I have to my unique baby and circumstances in a way that works best for us. Sometimes it’s an easy fix, and sometimes it’s not. But I know that struggling to figure out why my baby is crying does not make me a failure of a mother. It means I am LEARNING what my baby needs, and how to give it.⁣

If you’re working on figuring out your baby and their cues, you’re not alone. And don’t forget to give yourself credit for all the times you DO figure it out, and for all that you HAVE learned:⁣

💕When just being held by you makes it better⁣
💕When they are well fed and sleeping peacefully⁣
💕When they smile big at you because you’re their mom and you ARE doing it right. ⁣

You are not a failure. You are learning. You are trying each and every day to do your best to make your baby happy despite it being freaking HARD, and that’s beautiful. You’re working hard, you don’t quit, and that makes you ABSOLUTELY the best mom for your child. You’re a good mom
