🏀✨ New Year, New Goals – but let’s make sure your ankles are ready for them! Dr. Karma here with the essential guide to lateral ankle sprains.

Did you know this is the most common musculoskeletal injury out there? If you’ve played an indoor sport, chances are you’ve experienced one! About 85% of ankle sprains are lateral sprains, typically caused by landing on someone’s foot and your ankle rolling inward.

Here’s your recovery game plan for 2025:
1️⃣ Manual therapy and modalities to decrease pain and swelling
2️⃣ Protect the joint with bracing or taping
3️⃣ Restore range of motion and improve weight-bearing capacity
4️⃣ Work on stability, mobility, and muscle strength
5️⃣ Progress to plyometrics before returning to sport

The anatomy? Three key ligaments on the outside of your ankle – the anterior and posterior talofibular ligaments and the calcaneofibular ligament. These little “pieces of tape” prevent excessive motion, but an inversion injury can stretch or tear them!

What started as a love for fitness turned into a calling to help others move better and feel stronger. After earning her Kinesiology degree and training alongside incredible physios, Monica knew she had to take it further, all the way to Scotland for her Master’s in Physiotherapy.

Now? She gets to combine her passion for strength training with helping people overcome orthopaedic injuries, navigate recovery, and get back to doing what they love. Whether you’re returning to sport or just want to live pain-free, Monica is here to help you become the best version of yourself.

😁 We will be hosting a friendly, co-ed basketball tournament with our community! Open to all skill levels & ages. This is a not-for-profit event.

🇨🇦 We’ve partnered with ! Participants will be able to watch Canadian pro-bound players take part in the showcase on Sunday after our tournament!

⛹️‍♂️ Players will be randomly placed on one of 4 teams. You are allowed to pair up with one other player. The tournament is round-robin style with guaranteed 4 games. Each game will last 15 minutes. There will be playoffs!

📍Location: York University (Tait McKenzie Centre)
Address: 1 Thompson Rd., North York, ON

🗓️ Date: Sunday, April 27, 2024
Time: 8:45am Start

🪙 Cost: $50 per player

🎟️ Tickets can be purchased from the STORE at schoolofmovement.ca

York University Rules:
- No outdoor shoes allowed in the gym (even spectators)
- Participants must be 15+ to attend
- Only water is allowed in the gym

🏋🏼‍♂️ The kettlebell is one of the most versatile pieces of gym equipment. The Kettlebell Swing is a full-body exercise primarily targeting the posterior chain (glutes, hamstrings, spinal erectors, trapezius, rhomboids).

🤕 Most Common Errors:
❌ Using your shoulder and arms (rather than your legs & glutes)
❌ Rounding your low back
❌ Excessive extension of the lumbar spine at the end of the swing
❌ Squatting rather than doing a hip hinge
❌ Forgetting to breathe
