When someone loses an eye they don’t always know that a prosthesis is an option for them. Recently I worked with a client who lived most of his life with a blind and disfigured eye. Fortunately his doctor referred him to my clinic and we were able to make a beautiful and comfortable prosthesis for him ♥️

In case you missed it, be sure to read this account of recovery from eye loss from this week’s Globe and Mail.

It is remarkable how the author responds to her husband’s accident with a sense of gratitude: for the care they have received from medical professionals, and for the humour and kindness of their friends.

We should all take pride in participating in support systems where people can feel « drawn closer together by loss » , rather than being left to fend for themselves when they experience adversity.

Orientation symbols: the top part of the prosthesis is not normally visible, as it is occluded by the upper eyelid when the prosthesis is in place. Your ocularist may paint a dot, or some other symbol, to help you remember which way is ⬆️ when inserting your prosthesis.

My patient today requested this script, which he described the “shortest prayer” in Tibetan Buddhism, meaning something like “what you think is opposed to you actually is not”…he said it sounds like “ah” when spoken.
