2022 was a tough year for many, including myself. Didn't know if I was ready to face another year of unknowns. Didn't know what energy I wanted to bring into 2023. Then a dear friend sent me a message that summed it up perfectly that I would like to share:

With every change of season comes a new array of nourishing whole foods meant to support your nutritional needs in a sustainable way.

Benefits of Seasonal Eating:

1. Nutrition: The longer a fruit or vegetable takes to get from field to table, the more nutrient loss occurs. One study found that leafy greens lost almost 50% of their original vitamin C after transport, storage, and 3 days of sitting on the grocery store shelf.
2. Flavour: Nature has a unique way of letting us know when foods are most dense with nutrients: TASTE! Fresher, sweeter, better tasting, more flavourful foods are what you can look forward to when you eat with the seasons.
3. Support natural nourishment needs: the natural cycle of crops and produce is meant to support our health and nutritional needs for the season. Hydrating foods like watermelon and cucumber keep us hydrated in the summer months. Vernix offers plenty of benefits for a fetus and newborn. AND! The research continues to grow! Produced in the last trimester of pregnancy, vernix protects the fetus' skin by acting as a waterproof barrier to amniotic fluid. The vernix within the amniotic fluid is then swallowed by the fetus and is thought to help develop the gut due to its rich glutamine content.
