Staphylococcus aureus on Blood agar Plate

This gram-positive, sphere-shaped (coccal) bacteria can cause, heart valve infections, and bone infections and deadly pneumonia

Staphylococcus can spread from person to person by direct contact or through contaminated objects (such as door pulls)

Blood agar is an enriched, bacterial growth medium, consisting of a base containing a protein source (e.g. Tryptones), soybean protein digest, sodium chloride (NaCl), agar, and 5% sheep blood

Blood agar is mostly used for the cultivation of pathogenic organisms that are capable of producing extracellular enzymes that cause hemolysis of the blood.
