HOW TO INTEGRATE MINDFULNESS INTO YOUR LIFE

Mindfulness is a state of being deliberately and actively present in the moment, acknowledging and accepting your thoughts and emotions.

When you are mindful, you are paying attention to what is happening, both internally and outside of yourself, in the present moment.

Your focus is on accepting your thoughts and feelings about what is occurring and how you are feeling, without judgment.

Mindfulness is a form of meditation that has become a mainstream part of psychotherapy, providing stress reduction, self-control and concentration improvement.

Some of the benefits of practicing mindfulness include:

- Stress relief
- Improved self-esteem
- Lowered blood pressure
- Improvement in sleep quality
- Help with substance abuse issues
- Decreased symptoms of depression

PATHWAYS TO RESILIENCE

Resilience is the ability to bounce back from setbacks in our lives.

It is the way we can prevent stress from causing serious physical, mental and emotional issues.

Practicing positive and often simple activities can actually retain our brain to be more resilient.

Where does resilience come from?

The way we behave is shaped by a range of factors including personality and past experience, as well as current circumstances and the people around us.

Some people may have qualities that make them more resilient than others. Resilience, however, is best defined in terms of behaviour and support.

Behaviours can be learned and support put in place – which means that, in practice, there is a lot we can do to help people become more resilient.

Why does resilience matter?
